What a Day of Rejoicing it Will Be! Like many of you, I watched with great interest as our Governor gave his update on Monday afternoon. While some things are changing, especially as it relates to certain businesses being allowed to open, even with limited capacity, church gatherings are left largely to individual church leadership (while following stated guidelines.)

TWW Updated Reporting

Pike Wisner

Staff Meetings: Our staff meets weekly and we continue to eagerly and prayerfully plan toward the day when we all get together on our church campus. I have also participated in a “Zoom” meeting today with 18 other Smith Baptist pastors and am in touch with other pastors in our immediate area. I have spoken today with a doctor who has cared for those with this coronavirus. I will be participating in a webinar tomorrow through Texas Baptists talking specifically about gathering on church campuses. I will give an update with greater detail in the days to come. “Gathering”: While we have not been physically gathering, our streaming and our virtual Sunday School gatherings have gone very well and have, on the whole, kept our church engaged, connected and growing. We want to get together physically and are making plans to do so! Sunday Worship: Every church has a unique setting and varied demographics, so as you would imagine, there are as many approaches to this situation as there are churches. Our staff and I believe that the best thing for our church at this time is to continue to

live-stream our Sunday worship service and our Wednesday night Bible study. A spectrum of feelings: I realize we have those within our congregation who will feel the need to remain distanced, even as we begin to meet together. This may be due to their personal health concerns, or their concern for the health and safety of those around them. Many of our congregation are considered “most at risk,” and some of those may feel the need to forgo large gatherings for the foreseeable future. Please know we fully understand and will miss you until you can join us! We have other members who, understandably, are convinced we do not need to wait or to continue practicing social distancing. Most of us, likely, consider ourselves to be “somewhere in between”. I am prayerfully, and with ongoing counsel, proceeding with what I believe honors the Lord and serves our church’s greater good. A great hymn tells us that, “when we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be.” I can’t wait! But when we ALL get to be together on our campus, that too will be a day of rejoicing. Hold tight brothers and sisters… it’s coming! Grateful to be Your Pastor,
