Skek Thash, Welcome to the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass! We are so pleased you have chosen our resort for your travel experience. The information included here will help you plan a memorable visit. Please stop by the Front Desk and speak with an agent to answer questions or make reservations for any of the activities. The Gila River Indian Community is home to two separate and culturally distinct tribes: the Akimel O’otham (“River People”) or Pima, and the Pee-Posh (“People”), also known as the Maricopa. The PeePosh formerly lived along the banks of the Colorado River and are a Yuman-speaking tribe related to the Mojave, Quechan and other Yuman tribes in southwestern Arizona. The Akimel O’otham have lived in the Gila and Salt River Valleys since time immemorial and are descendants of the ancient Huhugam civilization that prospered throughout south central Arizona during a time when the Gila River was alive and flowed freely through our land. Our Pee-Posh neighbors began arriving in central Arizona in the late 1700’s and joined the Akimel O’otham who were already here. They agreed to live together as one while providing for the prosperity and protection of each other. We look forward to sharing more of our history and culture with you during your visit. Thank you for choosing our home to be away from yours; we are honored to have you with us! Rosie Rivera Cultural Manager
