Introduction The Missions Team of Shandon Baptist Church (SBC) works with the church staff to oversee a program of support for non-profit organizations that provide services to address critical needs in our local, national and international communities. SBC will fund grants to non-profit organizations that provide critical human services to needy individuals/families or evangelistic efforts to specific groups. Applicants may apply for funds up to $5,000 for the calendar year in consideration. Typically new grant recipients are started in the $1200 range. The goal is to provide support for one year where funds that are limited in amount and duration can positively impact ministry and program stability. Completed applications must be submitted by 5:00PM on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 to be considered for funding. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. All applications must be signed by the executive director and/or board chairperson and must include the signed Assurances and Certification page. A copy of the non-profit organization’s mission statement and 501(c)(3) must also be included. Completed forms may be submitted on line or emailed to [email protected]. Alternatively, you can mail it to Attention: Missions & Outreach, Shandon Baptist Church; 5250 Forest Drive; Columbia, SC 29206-5403 SBC reserves the right to request additional information as deemed necessary by the Missions Team or church staff. Applicants will be notified by November 1, 2016 whether or not they will receive a grant for the following year. SBC also reserves the right to cancel the grant during the year if at any time it should be concluded that the grant is not being used as intended or that the organization has violated the standards to which SBC adheres. Participation in SBC’s Missions Fair on February 5, 2017 is expected of our Mission Partners. This is a unique opportunity for our congregation to meet our partners and see where their ministry dollars are being spent. We will coordinate with each partner to see how they can best be involved with our missions fair. Partners abroad are generally excluded from participation. The Missions Team is convinced that individuals are more effective when working under an established sending agency. Therefore, it is our policy to not normally support individuals who are independent of such sponsorship and direction. It is our policy to support individuals who serve under boards having a reputation for integrity and stability, whose doctrinal statements are consistent with ours, who are sound and open in their financial policies and practices, who operate under clearly defined and generally accepted principles and practices, who demonstrate good management, and whose workers are given thoughtful training, field direction and active supervision.

General Criteria & Guidelines Eligibility and Selection Priority will be given to non-profit organizations providing ministry in the Columbia metropolitan area, which are financially sound and have an evangelistic focus on bringing people to Christ through their ministry. Evangelism does not have to be the primary purpose of the organization, but it must be a part of the organization’s focus and effort. Grantees submitting applications will be required to provide a copy of their 501(c)(3) and mission statement.

Use of Funds While requests for funds that support program activities will receive priority consideration, funds may be requested for other purposes which provide general support for the organization. However, the intended use of the funds must be clearly earmarked in the application. Grant funds will be paid monthly at a time determined by the SBC staff, beginning in January of the grant year, unless other arrangements are agreed upon by the Shandon staff and the grant recipient.

Evaluation and Reporting Requirements Proposals must include an evaluation plan focusing on community impact resulting from the project activities. The evaluation plan should be sufficiently clear to serve as an evaluation tool. The plan itself need not be complex or require complicated data collection. However, it does need to address both performance objectives and project impact.

Continuation Plans Grants may be renewable for another year, based on grantee performance as judged by the final evaluation and project impact on beneficiaries. Under no circumstances should any grant be viewed as automatically renewable. Renewal applications must be submitted according to the process determined by the Missions Committee.

Application Guidelines Applications must be received by the date indicated in the invitation letter to be considered for funding. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. The following information must be included:  Completed application form  Authorized signature page  Signed Certifications & Assurances page  Copy of organization’s mission statement  Copy of 501(c)(3)  Program description questions
