The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

“My cup runneth over.” The word cup in this Psalm is _________ in Hebrew. One of the major definitions of the word is to ______________________________________________________. David is referring to a small container that would have been essential for the trip. •

Why was the cup essential? The cup was essential to ____________________________________________. Never be more concerned about the _________________________ than you are about the _______________________. The shepherd would also use the cup to sometimes give ______________ to the sheep. It would help ______________ the sheep. These are symbols of the Holy Spirit. When the shepherd put something in the cup, it helped put some ______________ __________________________________. It helped the sheep keep up with the flock. In this way, the cup and its contents helped __________________________ ____________________________________. That’s the work of the Holy Spirit. David describes the cup as ______________________________. God wants my cup to overflow so that I can __________________________________________ ______________________________________.

The truth that my cup runneth over reveals to me the fifth of six comforts believers can appropriate from the 23rd Psalm. Comfort #5: I HAVE DIVINE ABUNDANCE!!!
