2017 Scholarship Applications Available

The Chamber is pleased to be providing $500 Scholarship(s) to eligible high school students! Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who are employed by or have a parent employed by a company that is a member of the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce. The scholarship will be paid directly to the attending institution in the student’s second year at a full-time college, university or technical school. The next meeting of the Greater Rochester Young Professionals will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the Revolution Taproom & Grill. The group will meet a different locations throughout the year where they will network, tour a few facilities during the year and hear from speakers on various topics. This year, the GRYP will spotlight a Young Professional on the Move each month. A Young Professional of the Year will also be established. Governmental Affairs Update

The Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Council, chaired by Kathleen Lewis of Eversource, met this past month to set their Issues Agenda for 2017 and determine which bills before the state legislature that they will follow. Web pages have been set up on the Chamber website indicating the committee’s 2017 Issues Agenda and Legislative Update Report. The committee’s Issues Agenda can be found at www.rochesternh.org/pages/IssuesAgenda. A Legislative Update Report providing information on bills before the state legislature that the committee will follow during this legislative term has also been developed. To view these bills that provides links to the bill text, their various committees, and bill status, visit www.rochesternh.org/ pages/LegislativeUpdateReport. The Governmental Affairs Council wants to keep you informed of vacancies on various City boards and commissions. Should you have an interest, please visit the Issues Agenda page and click on City Boards and Commissions. This list will be updated each month. A new Legislative Guide to Local, Regional and State legislators was recently produced. The Chamber welcomed two new full-time employees last month. Brittany Bartlett joins the Chamber as Member Services and Communications Coordinator, and Erin Cahill joins as Events Coordinator. Both began their positions at the Chamber in the beginning of February, and are excited to team up with Laura Ring, President/CEO as part of the Chamber staff. Brittany earned degrees in communications/journalism and sociology/criminal justice from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. She comes to the Chamber from The Woodlands Club in Falmouth, Maine where she had been the Member Communications Specialist since 2014. Prior to that, she was a Guest Service Supervisor in Wells, Maine at the Hampton Inn and Suites for five years. She has also been a freelance copywriter since 2010.

Erin graduated from UNH with a degree in recreation management and policy. She started her career working for American Girl planning birthday parties and events. Following that role, she took a position for the town of Littleton, Massachusetts in 2009 for the Parks and Recreation department where she served as the program coordinator for 7.5 years. In that role she put together special events for the community. She was also the Aquatics director for the town’s lake facility.
