the doors of our new location in February. We will be in a larger store with the possibility of an increase of customers. We need to be prepared to accommodate our patrons and provide the best service possible. Ideally, having 4 volunteers per shift will assure the success of our “Grand Reopening.” Please consider helping our shop start off with a bang and contact Betty Shanks (728-2703/[email protected]) or Kathy Walker (shop 727-2797/cell 292-0353/[email protected]) to sign up.

LENTEN BIBLE STUDY: Moses: In the Footsteps of the Reluctant Prophet Retrace the life of Moses from his modest birth and rescue as a baby to the courts of Pharaoh, from herding flocks in Midian to leading his people out of Egypt. Join Adam Hamilton as he travels from Egypt to Mt. Sinai, the Nile, the Red Sea and the wilderness exploring the sites of Moses’ life. Using historical information, archaeological data, and biblical text, Hamilton guides us in the footsteps of this reluctant prophet who grew in his relationship with God and by the end of life had successfully fulfilled the role he was given. Turn your own reluctance into boldness as you examine the significant challenges facing Moses and how God shaped his character and life in powerful ways. The program will be offered by our clergy during their Bible Studies, and during the Adult Bible Study at Whole Church Family Night: • Mondays at 11:00am in Lewis Hall, beginning March 11 • Wednesdays at 11:30am in Lewis Hall, beginning March 13 • Wednesdays at 6:45pm in the Parish Hall, beginning March 13 Books will be available at the church before the end of February.

are the

Body

of

FROM THE CO-RECTORS

Christ

St. Paul wrote, “You are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27) This statement is at the heart of what I believe about God. I think about this every time I put bread into your hands at Holy Communion. I say to each one of you, “The Body of Christ, the bread of heaven.” But I am thinking, “You are the Body of Christ, here is the bread of heaven.”

of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Jesus read the Scripture and then he sat down and preached what may be the shortest sermon in history. Jesus said very simply, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:14-21) We are the Body of Christ because Jesus makes it so. His Spirit is upon us.

At that moment it does not matter what title you might have, whether you are male or female, your age, the amount of money in your bank account, where you were born, how many times you’ve been married, whether you have gone to this church all your life or are new here, coming to Communion for the first time. At that moment we are all joined in sharing the Body of Christ. We are the Body of Christ and individually members of it.

It is a simple message, and it applies to each and every person. Where in your life do you need good news? Look to Jesus. What holds you captive? Jesus wants to release you. Are you oppressed? Jesus wants to set you free. We are all broken and imperfect and we all need Jesus. The message is for all of us to hear -- but it is also for us to share. We are called to be the presence of Jesus in the world. We are released and set free so that we can help someone else. We are given this tremendous gift of freedom in Christ so that joy may conquer despair, so that unity may overcome estrangement, so that forgiveness may heal guilt. Together we are the Body of Christ and individually members of it.

It is an amazing reality -- the Body of Christ made up of all kinds of people -- young people struggling with how to become adults -- and older people who have traveled a long way in life -- babies and strong men -- office workers and field workers -- all make up the Body of Christ. Together we are the Body of Christ and individually members of it.

The Spirit of God is for everyone who is open to God and willing to come together with others to receive God’s blessing. And the reality of the Body of Christ is that we need each other, even those with whom we do not necessarily agree. We need each other and we need to come together to know the power of God’s Holy Spirit. The miracle, every time we share Communion, is that we accomplish this. We become the Body of Christ as we share the Body and Blood of our Lord.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry says that the Eucharist, the action of eating and drinking the body and blood of Christ together, is a sacrament of unity. It brings Christians together in a way that can overcome even the deepest estrangements between human beings. Together we are the Body of Christ and individually members of it. Jesus showed by his life, death and resurrection that it is possible for people to come together in this way. When he stood up in the synagogue of his hometown, he proclaimed that the Holy Spirit was bringing people together in this way. He stood up and read from the book of Isaiah, “The Spirit

HEALTH MINISTRY NEWS: Are you looking for a “NEW” activity to bring some change to the year 2019? I have just the program for you! It happens on Monday afternoon at 2:00pm in Lewis Hall. About five of us have been participating in this program for years. Now it has been decided to invite others to come. What am I talking about? The Monday Chair Exercise! Chair exercise is specific movements to strengthen muscle fibers, improve circulation and give more strength to bones. These workouts are for anyone who desires to increase mobility, strength, and endurance. The DVD we use improves core strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, circulation and reaction time. We supply the DVD and the chair. We want YOU to come and occupy the chair. It’s also a great social time. We laugh and talk as we follow the program. We start with a prayer and end with a joke provided by one of the participants. It is easy on the pocketbook: NO charge for an hour of healthy activity. The monthly blood pressure screening will continue in 2019, and health forums will happen in the summer months. If you have a suggestion or topic for a forum that is of interest to you or our members, see one of the team members to discuss the presentation.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church The Daughters of the King invite the ladies to a

Ladies Tea

Saturday, March 30 at 1:00pm Guest Speaker: Rachel Hauck, writer The Ladies Tea theme is PRAYER. We’ll begin the day with an Afternoon Prayer Service at 1:00pm in the church. Following the service we will enjoy making a craft together in the Parish Hall: FASCINATORS! After our craft we’ll enoy our tea with finger sandwiches and desserts. About our guest speaker: “My whole life I’d been telling stories.” Rachel Hauck uses these words as she describes her journey from life in a well-paying career that included international travel to life as a Christian writer and novelist. The journey began with a “tugging” on her heart to make the change, and by 2004 Rachel was a full time writer of award winning best-sellers that draw on her faith. “I’ve discovered dreams are best realized when running in partnership with a living God. And I’ve never looked back.” Rachel will speak at both the worship service and at the tea. Look for sign-ups to begin soon.
