From Our Pastor

If you are our guest, we have a special gift for you after today’s service. So that we can get to know you better, please fill out both sides of this tear-off section and bring it to the Information Center near the columns. We have a gift bag ready for you.

Welcome to worship this morning at First Baptist Church. People have been praying this week for something very significant to happen in our worship services today. I pray that you open yourself to all that God would speak to your heart today. For those who are our guests today, we count it a great honor that God would lead you to worship with us. Please take a moment to complete the guest registration card. This card will be of tremendous help to us as we seek to get to know you and to minister to the needs of your family. You will be asked in the service to place this registration card in the offering plate when we receive the offering this morning. We would also invite you to stop by our Information Center to receive other information about our church and receive a gift.

Sermon Notes

My Journey to Easter Through the Lord’s Supper Isaiah 53:1-12; 1 Corinthians 11:17-28; Mark 15:25-39 1 Corinthians 11:17-28 Now in giving the following instruction I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse. 18 For to begin with, I hear that when you come together as a church there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. 19 There must, indeed, be factions among you, so that those who are approved may be recognized among you. 20 Therefore, when you come together, it is not really to eat the Lord’s Supper. 21 For at the meal, each one eats his own supper ahead of others. So one person is hungry while another gets drunk! 22 Don’t you have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you look down on the church of God and embarrass those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I do not praise you for this! 17

For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: On the night when He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, 24 gave thanks, broke it, and said, “This is My body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” 23

In the same way, after supper He also took the cup and said, “This cup is the new covenant established by My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes. 25

The focus of our worship today is the celebration of the LORD’s Supper. Over the next few weeks, we want you to revisit several events and words that help us to focus on Easter. We are calling this reflection, “My Journey to Easter.” We begin our “journey” by participating in the Lord’s Supper. Please begin to prepare your heart now for your participation. We invite all who have trusted Christ as Savior, and identified with Him in baptism to partake of the elements this morning. Finally, next Saturday is our community missions day that we call First Baptist Church Loves Lafayette. It is imperative that you sign-up so that we might make proper preparation for the commitments that we have made in our community, as well as prepare for lunch and child-care. If you have not signed-up in your Sunday School class, make your way to the Information Desk immediately following the service.

Annette Herndon is a dynamic Christian singer, author, senior adult/ladies conference speaker, and pro-life advocate. She was our guest at a JOY Club meeting several years ago, and will be with us again this Thursday. Annette shares a message of hope and encouragement. Her songs and testimony will touch your heart and leave you eager to experience a more intimate relationship with God. Plan to be here Thursday at 11:30 a.m. for JOY Club.

Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way will be guilty of sin against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 So a man should examine himself; in this way he should eat the bread and drink from the cup. 27
