We are glad you are here! Thank you for joining us for worship this Sunday. Members of this congregation have been gathering here to worship since 1804. Over the past two centuries our congregation has changed, but our mission remains the same: to make disciples of Jesus Christ. We are inspired by the words of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, who encouraged believers to “do all the good you can, in all the ways you can.”

Palm Sunday

Sunday,  April 9 | 8:30, 9:45, & 11:00 a.m.

On Palm Sunday, the Children’s Music Ministry and Sunday school will lead us in the procession of the palms. The Sanctuary Choir will present Michael John Trotta’s “Seven Last Words” in all three worship services. Accompanied by an orchestra, the choir will express through music the complex tapestry of emotions (forgiveness, hopefulness, compassion, yearning, despair, acceptance, and resignation) that Jesus experienced in his crucifixion.

Holy Week

& Easter Sunday's Coming

On Maundy Thursday, we will commemorate the last supper of Jesus with his disciples by observing a service of Holy Communion followed by a service of Tenebrae, which will include the stripping of the altar and the extinguishing of light. Worshipers will leave in silence to ponder the impact of Christ's death and await the coming Resurrection. We invite children to take communion with their families before exiting the sanctuary and going to the chapel for an age-appropriate experience of Jesus’ last week on earth. Childcare will be available for children age 4 and under.

Good Friday

Friday,  April 14 | 12:00 p.m.

On Good Friday, we will take time to remember and reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus in a service that features the reading of the passion narrative and a musical interpretation of the Passion. Childcare is available for children age 4 and under.

Easter Sunday

Sunday,  April 16 *6:30 , 8:30, 9:45, & 11:00 a.m. *Evergreen Memorial Park Youth from our Student Ministry and Wesleyan Youth Choir will lead worship at a sunrise service at Evergreen Memorial Park. On Easter morning in the sanctuary, we will celebrate our Risen Lord with special music from the Sanctuary Choir and a brass ensemble.

Seven Last Words Continues

Throughout the season of Lent, our Sunday worship services have focused on the Seven Last Words of Christ—the seven expressions attributed to Jesus during his crucifixion. We continue series today as we explore Jesus' words "I thirst," recorded in the Gospel of John. Our analysis will conclude on Palm Sunday, April 9. We hope you'll join us each Sunday as we explore these powerful statements.

Easter Lilies | Last Chance

Lilies will once again be placed on our altar for Easter Sunday services. They may be purchased for $13 each in memory or in honor of a loved one. Orders with payment must be received at the church office by tomorrow, March 27. Lilies may be picked up on Easter Sunday, April 16, after the 11:00 a.m. worship service or on Monday, April 17.

Pack One Pancake Supper | March 29

Pack One will be hosting a pancake supper on Wednesday, March 29, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. This meal will take the place of our regular Wednesday night meal. Tickets can be purchased before and after worship services today. Cub Scouts will be located outside of Hancock Hall and in front of the preschool wings to sell tickets. Tickets may also be purchased online. If you purchased a semester Wednesday night meal package, you do not need to purchase a ticket for the pancake supper—we are already accounting for you! There will be a limited number of walk-up meals available, so we encourage you to buy your tickets early! The cost is $5 per person with a $20 maximum per family. We hope you will come hungry! International Mission Trip

If you are interested in serving on an international mission team, we invite you to attend an interest meeting on Wednesday, March 29, at 5:15 p.m. in room 100 to learn more! The Costa Rica trip will occur sometime between July 9-23. The team will determine best dates and the length of the trip. We are looking at a week in October (fall break) for a mission trip to Tijuana. Weekday Preschool Summer Camps

The Weekday Preschool will be offering three camps this summer for children ages 2-5. Missions Celebration Brunch

Come join us for this year’s Missions Celebration Brunch and Basket Auction on Sunday, April 23. The doors will open at 9:00 a.m. for the basket auction, so feel free to come browse before you eat. We will offer two seatings for the meal, 10:45 a.m. or 12:00 p.m. Tickets for the brunch are $10 for adults, $5 for children 3-12 years old, and children 2 and under eat free. Habitat for Humanity

Our Habitat for Humanity renovation project is off to a great start! There are opportunities for individuals and groups to serve Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each week. Volunteers can sign up a week in advance to work on-site. Saturday dates are available for volunteers to register for online. Groups are limited to 12-15 persons per shift. Pickleball

Music and Arts Week

Calling all superheroes! Children currently in kindergarten through grade 4 are invited to join us for Music and Arts Week June 13-15, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day. This year, we will be putting on the musical "Heroes of the Faith," and kids will have the chance to be involved in all aspects of the production, from set construction and costume design to singing, acting, and dancing! GriefShare

This thirteen-week faith-based curriculum features nationally recognized experts on grief and recovery topics. GriefShare groups are for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. Erica Cooper, bereavement coordinator of Gentiva Hospice, will facilitate both groups. The Monday group meets at 6:30 p.m. and the Wednesday group meets at 10:00 a.m. New participants are welcome to join at any time. Prayer Shawl Ministry

Do you enjoy knitting and crocheting? Or maybe you would like to learn how? If so, this group is for you! We meet on Wednesdays between 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. in room 200, and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. at Panera Bread. In addition to making prayer shawls for those in need of comfort and prayer, we have also committed to providing 400 handmade scarves for the Christmas Community Meal on December 14. Circle Spotlight

In 2016, our seven UMW circles contributed $6,956.45 to United Methodist Women projects in the United States and around the world. An additional $4,179.76 was given for local church and community work. There are many ways in which we serve. For the past 14 years, we have provided milk, juice, and eggs to the Project Safe Milk, Juice, and Egg Fund as well as contributed to the Christmas party. We contribute and participate in the Athens-Clarke County Schools’ Books for Keeps program. We serve at Our Daily Bread. We support and participate in the Church Women United Shoe Fund and Least Coin. We contribute to the Salvation Army Summer Camp and Christmas Distribution. Within our church, we provide over 50 gifts to the homebound at Christmas and Easter and send cards to them each month. We create and donate Great Day of Service baskets.
