Elements and Performance Criteria element 1 Select fixed machine tools appropriate for the task, under supervision. performance criteria 1.1

Machine processes needed are identified from the design and drawings.

Machine tools are selected for the operations as determined by the design and drawings.

Potential hazards of the machining tasks are identified and, preventative action is taken to comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and worksite requirements.

Safety equipment is obtained and worn as required in the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and worksite requirements.

2.3

Safe working practices for machine tools are demonstrated in accordance with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, manufacturer’s specifications, and worksite requirements.

Tool maintenance requirements, as recommended by the manufacturer, are met. Range:

examples are - guarding, cleaning, lubrication, setting, adjustment.
