Math Placement Info Taking the Online Mathematics Evaluation Prior to your Arrival

Available: December 21, 2015 Deadline: January 8, 2016

What it is  



First-year students arrive at UNH with a wide range of mathematics preparation. It is important that you begin your UNH experience in the appropriate mathematics course. Every incoming Navitas student must take the mathematics placement test prior to coming to Orientation. This online evaluation is the foundation upon which their academic schedule is created. o Those who choose not to take the placement test will be automatically placed into MATH 418 (Analysis and Application of Function, the pre-requisite course to MATH 425 – Calculus I), regardless of high school MATH background or Advanced Placement Credits. Review information about the test MATH 425 Placement Test Information o The test is a 40-question multiple-choice test o The test covers topics from algebra and pre-calculus o Calculator use is not allowed on the test

Test Info It is important that you plan on taking your placement exam no later than one week before your arrival to Orientation. We need at minimum this much time to receive your results and prepare your schedule.      

The placement evaluation is a timed test You will have 80 minutes to complete the exam You have only one opportunity to take it online Once you have begun to take the test, you must complete it You cannot stop and restart it at a later date You cannot retake the test prior to coming to Orientation

At the end of this brief overview you will be provided a link to the website to begin your test. Please read all instructions before you begin to ensure your test is taken and submitted with no errors.

Prepare Before you begin taking the test you will need to know your UNH Student ID number Your UNH Student ID number is a 9-digit Number that begins with the # 9 If you do not know your Student ID Number, you can find it on your UNH Acceptance letter

Logging in to the Placement Test The link to the test will be provided below. Please take a moment to review these steps prior to starting. This will ensure there is little confusion while taking the test and allow for stress free experience. The first screen you will see will be for your log-in information.

User login: Your UNH Student ID without dashes. (see instructions above on how to look this up if you have not already). Password: Your Birthday (MM/DD/YYYY) Once logged in you will see the following

Click on the link for the NAVITAS Math Placement This will take you to the following page:

Before you click on the link NAVITAS Mathematics Evaluation and start the test it’s important to remember the following:     

No calculators are allowed during this exam This is a timed test You will have 80 minutes to complete the exam You only have one opportunity to take this test online Once you are completed there is no way to retake again prior to coming to Orientation

With that in mind you are now ready for the final step. Click on the link NAVITAS Mathematics Evaluation to start the test

Taking the Test Once you click on the link above NAVITAS Mathematics Evaluation you will see the following pop-up:

Click OK

You will also see the following pop-up:

Click OK to start the test.

Below is an example of how the questions will look on the test.

Once you have selected your answer, you move to the next questions by clicking “Next”. (Bottom right of the page). NOTE: You are NOT permitted to go “Back” to a previous question. Do not select “Next” until you are certain about your answer.

You will also see your remaining time listed at the top right of the page. Remember you only have 80 minutes (1hour & 20 minutes) to complete the exam.

Continue to answer all 40 questions on the test. On the last question, the Next button will no longer work. At this point, in order to submit your test for grading, you must click on the Submit Assignment button at the bottom.

If you do not click the Submit Assignment button, your answers will not be submitted. You will immediately be provided your test results.
