VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL June 26-30 This June High Five Ministries is given the opportunity to host our annual Vacation Bible School (VBS). This is a time of celebration for all the Lord our savior has done for us. Every year it is a privilege to serve with many talented individuals to bring God’s Good News to children of Grace and the community. It is always a joy to watch people come together for such a great cause. This year’s VBS is called Under the Sea. Children who register and participate will attend our underwater world. Children will learn that no matter how big or small, every person is important to God. Kids will be challenged in their commitment to God as individual believers and as a body together in their service to Him. Each night children will be exposed to live worship, learn life building verses, experience Bible stories, participate in crafts, missions, games and much, much more. This year we will also have water park night in addition to our Annual celebration carnival at the end of the week. We are excited about the things God will orchestrate to see His Word connect with children. As we celebrate a life with Christ that rescues the

lost, and prevents all from being a castaway. This year’s Under the Sea VBS will take place June 26TH through June 30TH from 6:30pm to 8:30-ish. Please register your child (4yrs old through 6th grade) and consider volunteering so you will not miss out on our mission to have an eternal impact in young lives. Child registration will begin May 21ST, 2017. All early registrants will be eligible for random drawings beginning May 28TH. Children younger than 4 yrs. old may attend with a parent. Core group meetings will be scheduled the week of June 4TH to formalize expectations and plans for station areas and crew leader support. More information will be provided in the weeks ahead. Please feel free to contact Pastor Dan or Children’s Ministry Assistant, Steven Weese, with regard to any questions you have in person, by phone at 816.279.2090, or by email at [email protected]. And don’t forget to check us out on our High Five Facebook page. Search Facebook for High Five Ministries. Updates will be provided weekly for VBS as well as other events that are happening.

Memorial Day Weekend Sunday, May 28TH We are starting off the camping season with our second annual Grace Family Memorial Weekend Campout. Bring your tent, camper, or RV to church on Sunday on May 28th, anytime after 1:00pm and set up on the back lot. The campout will be for one night only, and families are responsible for bringing their own camping supplies and gear. The church will provide food to cook over an open fire on Sunday evening, but you are on your own for breakfast. You will have plenty of time to set up your camp sites and recreational equipment for the kids while the fellowship committee prepares food for you to cook at your campsite. Last year’s campout was a great success, and it was good to visit with other people who love the great outdoors. To help us better plan and prepare for the campout, we ask you to please sign up at the information center at church and let us know what type of camp sight you will need: i.e., tent, camper, RV. Please be aware that there are no electrical or water/sewer hook-ups available. The church will be opened to provide restroom facilities only. Watch the bulletin for more details on this event as it approaches. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to spend time with your Grace Family!

A new summer quarter of Sunday School classes begins on June 4TH and runs through August. Each quarter we offer two sessions of Sunday School classes for adults. The first session meets 9:40-10:40am, and the second one starts at 11:00am. 7TH-12TH

ReSet Sunday School Classes for Grade Students meet at 11:00am in the Youth Center. High 5 Sunday School Classes for children 4 years—6TH grades meet from 9:30-10:45am in Children’s Church Area with Check-in beginning at 9:15am. A complete list of adult classes being offered for the summer quarter will be published in the bulletin the last week of May. Watch for it and plan to make Sunday School a regular part of your Sunday worship at Grace!

Baby Dedication We invite you to join us on Mother’s Day, May 14TH, as we dedicate our precious children to the Lord.

Weekly classes will be held on Wednesdays, from 6:30-8pm starting June 7 TH and running through the end of August. Nursery care will be provided for children under age 4 if needed. Of course, our regular Student Midweek Activities will be held on Wednesdays throughout the summer, for Youth and Children. These ministry groups will only break on June 28 TH for VBS. Movers & Shakers of Grace

Hands of Grace

The Movers and Shakers of Grace is a fellowship group for those 50 and over. MSG husually olds a regular dinner meeting on the 2ND Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm. Your are invited to come and bring a covered dish or two to share. Meetings are occasionally changed for other special events throughout the year.

Hands of Grace has partnered with the YWCA to provide gifts to the women at their shelter on Mother’s Day. When the Women’s Sunday School class heard about this program, they decided to take the lead and collect and assemble the bags that would be presented to the women at the shelter. It has been a labor of love for the Sunday School class to be able to brighten the day of women who come from difficult situations that are trying to make a better life for their families. Please keep the women at the shelter and their families in your prayers.

May 9TH – Sgt. Roy Hoskins, from the St Joseph Police Department, will speak on the topics of Senior Safety and Identity Theft. Bring a dish and join us for the meal and this valuable information for this day and age. June 13TH – we will have a good old-fashioned cookout at the Krug Park Shelter. The Soul Harvest Quartet will be our featured guests. In case of weather issues, we’ll meet in the ReSet youth room at church.

Singles (over 40) Events Tickets ($45 per person) are going fast for our trip to watch the KC Royals game on Saturday, May 6TH, that begins at 3:15 pm. Church van will leave at noon, and you need to bring a sack lunch; water provided. On June 24TH we’re planning to go on a Riverboat Dinner Cruise out of Brownville, NE. Cost is $30 each. The cruise leaves the dock at 5:30pm, returning at 7pm. Church vans will depart at 4pm. Watch for a sign-up at the Singles Kiosk, beginning May 7TH. For more information on any of these events, please contact Pastor Dave at [email protected].

Nursing Home Ministry Several from Grace have been involved in this ministry at LaVerna of St Joseph. It is so rewarding and really blesses the residents there. We meet there at 3:30pm on the last Wednesday of each month, so our next meetings are May 31ST and June 28TH. We have a planning meeting the 2ND Wednesday of each month to discuss that month’s outreach. We invite you to prayerfully consider being the hands, feet, and compassion of our Lord to these precious ones! Contact Kari Coughlin at [email protected].

MEN’S MINISTRIES Our Men’s Fellowship Group is led by Deacon Matt Weiners. It generally meets at the church once a month for a fellowship breakfast. This group offers men the opportunity to gather with other men and share some good food and hear an inspirational message from a brother in Christ. There will not be a breakfast held in May because the annual Men’s Retreat takes place May 18-21. This year the men are going to Ponca, Arkansas, to experience the North Buffalo River. Retreat registration is closed, but please keep the trip in prayer. The next Men’s Fellowship Breakfast will be held at Grace on Saturday, June 17TH, starting at 8:30am. Plan to attend; you won’t want to miss the food and fellowship.

Mark A Pease Memorial Blood Drive Update Faith Promise Update We praise God for a grand total of over $300,000 in faith promises that came in from our Missions Week! As these faith promises are fulfilled over the coming months, the funds will be distributed as one-time or on-going monthly support gifts for missionaries, mission projects, and mission-minded ministries that have been included in our 2017 Mission Fund budget or been specially approved by the Missions Committee and Church Council. May God bless you for your faithfulness!

Thank you to all those who participated in our Mark A. Pease Memorial Blood Drive held at Grace on April 20TH. We collected 44 units of blood at the drive. We appreciate your willingness to provide the gift of life for those in our community. We also appreciate all the volunteers who helped set up, serve food, and clean up after the drive. You helped make it a good day for all.

Opportunity to Serve

We’ve been looking at the topic, “God’s Answers to Life’s Difficult Questions”, based on a book by Rick Warren. In May, we’ll meet at 6:00pm in the Library on the 7th and 21st (skipping Mothers Day on the 14th), concluding this study, looking at the questions: “How Did I Get Myself Into This Mess?” and “How Can I Live Above Average?” Pastor Dave leads this interactive Bible Study. Anyone is welcome to come and take part.

Every few months we recruit a team of volunteers to help keep the church building clean and in order. We have several areas of the church where volunteers are asked to come and clean at least once a week a three month time period or as long as you would like to serve. If you are willing to serve the Lord in this way, please mark “clean” on your registration pad or call the church office at 279-2090 and talk with Gary Reynolds. We are very grateful to those who have served so faithfully over the last few months.

Watch for the Upcoming Summer Events And Join In!

HOLIDAY PICNIC Sunday, July 2ND We will be celebrating the Fourth of July as a church family on Sunday, July 2ND, and you won’t want to miss it! All Church Work Day We anticipate holding a work day on Saturday, July 1ST starting at 8:00am and working until noon to restore the Sanctuary and Chapel after a week of VBS. We also have a few other projects that need to be done around the church. Look for project details with the sign up sheet at the Information Desk later in June.

Mark your calendars for Friday, August 4TH , that’s when our “Moonlight 5K Run and Fun Walk” is scheduled to be held on the Mapleleaf Parkway. This event benefits the Catholic Charities Crisis Pregnancy Program right here in St. Joseph. We need your help to make this event successful. There are several ways in which you may be involved: 1) We need businesses to purchase corporate sponsorships. 2) We need participants to either run or walk in our race. 3) We need volunteers to be spectators, work at a drink station, be stationed at a barricade, work at the registration table, or help in a number of other ways.

To help us in any of these ways, just watch the bulletin and sign-up at church. Race brochures will be available by early summer. Remember, this is a community outreach event. After the race, a message of salvation will be shared with the race participants giving them an opportunity to accept Christ. Please be praying for our plans and preparations, and for the outreach of our event.

BRANDON & KELLY BODENHAUSEN P310: BOLIVER, MO Hello Everyone, Just a quick update on current happenings. A few weeks ago we finally found a home for the twin bed the middle school students made. We were also given a mattress to take with it to a local foster child. We were privileged to share the Gospel with the grandmother while her son listened in! We’ve had a couple of new students participating on Fridays at the middle school. We will see if any of them want to participate over the summer. Every time we get a new student it always takes us a while to get used to new quirks and qualms. Our newest student struggles…greatly struggles, with focusing attention on the task at hand. He also has sticky fingers! Recently while at a local resident’s home dismantling a wheel chair ramp, he stole 2 cigarette lighters that were laying on a table. While the value of these lighters is piddly, the deed is wrong. This gave a great opportunity to talk about God’s requirement, our falling short of it, and Jesus’ gift. He also had to return them to the owner and got to see what it felt like to make something right. Thankfully the gentleman is a believer and took advantage of the situation to speak some truth to him also. Please continue to pray for this young man. Jesse is approximately 15 hours away from completing Project 3:10. His broken collar bone might slow that progress down a little, but he hasn’t given up yet. Recently the board conducted an exit interview with one our students who wanted to quit. The interview went well, and we found out the real reason why he quit. It wasn’t because of needing more time to focus on his studies (like he said). It was because he thought it was getting too hard, and he only wanted to do

things that he thought pleasurable. He was encouraged to return when he felt ready. Thank the Lord for a discerning board of directors! On July 4TH we will be selling sandwiches from the mobile workshop at the Celebration of Freedom at Southwest Baptist University. This money will be used towards our liability insurance. We are also hoping to get to witness to hungry patriots. So the Lord has been good to provide for every payment of it for the last 6 years. Thanks for praying!!

SAMUEL EBENEZER SERVE INDIA Some snapshots from a South India mission field: Pastor Chinnaiah was doing evangelism throughout a South Indian village. As he shared the Gospel with people, he came across a worried couple. Noticing that they looked very discouraged, he asked them what their problem was. They opened up their hearts and shared that their daughter was suffering from severe tuberculosis. Her condition had become quite serious. The parents’ love and worry showed on their tensed faces. Pastor Chinnaiah shared Jesus with them and gave them hope that nothing is impossible with Christ. This family put their trust in the Lord and started attending church. The Lord did a miracle and their daughter started to recover. Within a month’s time, she was completely healed. This increased the faith of this family. Pastor Chinnaiah began to regularly visit this family and disciple them in the faith. Soon, a fellowship group was started in this village and 10 people are regularly attending the prayer times. Praise the Lord for showing His mighty power in this village! Here are a few quotes from other pastors ministering in this region of South India: “The Gospel meeting conducted recently in one of the remote villages was a success. Twenty people attended the meeting and two of them gave their lives to the Lord.” Pastor Rajaiah. “Praise God for helping me establish churches in two villages. Pray for the church construction work in one of the villages to be completed very soon.” Pastor Mahadeva.

“In the month of November 2015, as a church we had arranged a mass evangelism. A good number of believers participated and we visited around 80 villages” Pastor Prasad. Each day, across the nation of India, God is using the work of native pastors to spread His Gospel among unreached people. Following the example of Jesus in Luke 4, their heart’s cry is the same as their Master’s---”The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” Luke 4:18.

DR. STEVE AND THERESA MANCHESTER WGM: KENYA, AFRICA Today around the globe, over 151,000 people will die, with over 40 percent of those individuals entering into eternity with little or no access to the gospel of Jesus Christ. These facts haunt me every day; I simply cannot escape them. These people could not make a decision to accept Jesus as their personal Savior because they never even heard that He wanted to be their Savior. This is a tragic reality, but it’s not just the tragic nature of these facts that haunts me, I’m also deeply troubled with these questions: Has World Gospel Mission done everything God intended for us to do in order for as many people as possible to hear and respond to the gospel? Have we done our very best? Have I as the president of WGM done my utmost to lead this organization to have the greatest possible impact for His Kingdom? These questions have driven me to call upon WGM to double it’s impact over the next five years, including doubling the number of missionaries serving on the mission field. Jesus said “we will do even greater things than these” (John 14:12 NIV) Doesn’t that suggest that we need to do more and greater things than we are currently doing? Doesn’t that suggest that we need to constantly expand our Holy Spirit-empowered efforts to achieve those greater things? This is the driving force behind this issue of The Call, in which we

are pleading with our WGM family to obediently pray for workers to enter the plentiful harvest fields. It is urgent that we act now! Tomorrow another 151,000 people will die, and again the day after tomorrow, and again the day after that. That’s over 1 million individuals who will slip into eternity this next week: In 2 Peter 3:9(KJV) it states, “God is not willing that any should perish.” As a Christian, you undoubtedly share that same heart, that longing that all will be saved. But “how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (Romans 10:14 NIV) We want to be obedient to Jesus and pray for workers. We can be especially confident of God’s positive answers to these prayers because we know we are praying in line with His will--He is the One who asks us to pray for workers?

2017 Honduras Pastor Ken and Pastor Chris will lead a team of young adults and college students to work and witness with AFE in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, from May 20TH through May 26TH.

Haiti Pastor Dan will lead a mission team to work with Filter of Hope in Haiti from May 20TH through May 26TH. Please be in prayer for all these trips and all the missionaries serving around the world.
