May 2019 Mainstreet Update BUILDING PLANNING COMMITTEE Schedule, Budget & Design Update: 1. The custom window treatments are fully installed in the Chapel. 2. The contract for the architect has been negotiated, reviewed by a small committee and executed by Mark Sauls on behalf of the Mainstreet Building Committee. 3. The Building Planning Committee continues to work towards a Phase 1 construction start right after VBS or mid June. Initial design is completed and pricing is underway. Value engineering and cost tradeoffs will start in early May. Permitting has also been submitted to the city of Dunwoody. A schedule is attached. 4. Designers and engineers are focused on Phase 2 (See green shading in attached drawing), which includes the south end of the campus, and that includes the ramps, expanded lobby and the new worship center. The northern covered overhang is also being designed and priced. Phase 2 design will continue thru the summer. We are working thru preliminary design for the lobby and worship center are attached. Initial drawings should be available on 5/21. 5. We continue with risk reduction activities as we do have some asbestos that needs to be abated. Quotes are being received to deal with the abatement. 6. We continue to work with our interior designer, Civil Creative, to plan and design the lobby and worship center so that it will be a place where new families of all ages will be welcomed. Design sessions have been held between DBC members, staff and the design team. The new MAIN entrance of the church for Sunday mornings will be the southwest corner of the lobby and a “design narrative” has been created that supports this entry. 7. A lot of work has been placed on improving campus security in the Phase 1 design. Several doors will have special keycard access with CCTV and the entire campus will have all external locks rekeyed. Several locks will be eliminated and these doors will be converted into emergency-exit-only doors. 8. Due to the number of subcontractors required to attend our campus for pricing reasons, a new visitor policy has been implemented that will require each unaccompanied visitor to sign in and get a lanyard to identify them as an approved visitor. 9. The budget remains unchanged. Pricing the A/V/L system to support the new worship center continues to get attention by our Tech Team. Team Update: 1. The Transition Team led by Lonice Barrett will hold a kickoff meeting on May 2. Lonice has already begun preparing for the June construction by visiting other remodeled churches, assembling his team, meeting with the general contractor and compiling a logistics plan, and outlining several important tasks that need to be addressed. Their focus continues to be site preparation for construction, logistical plans and to minimize disruptions to the congregation during the construction phase. 2. Brigette Poag (our new Children’s Pastor) is being brought up to speed on Mainstreet. Initial meetings were held on May 6 as this ministry transitions from Brenda to Brigette. 3. A construction execution team will be put together, headed by David Newman, that will help manage and provide oversight of the construction of Phase 1. Some of the construction-savvy members of DBC will be asked to join this effort on an as-needed basis. Members include Tom Frost, Douglas Erdman, Jim Hickey, David Newman and Dennis Barnette. 4. The Design Team that has been focused on Phase 1 will be scaled back and only those members that are needed for Phase 2 will continue. Phase 1 members will be used on an as-needed basis going forward. Team members include Angela Rodda, Dennis Barnette, Jim Hickey, Jonathan Sangster, Ron Cameron, Lonice Barrett, Becky Kirk and David Newman.
