Men’s Breakfast presentation May 18th Habitat for Humanity claims their mission to be: Seeking to put God’s love into action, San Diego Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Habitat was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent and affordable home to live in dignity and safety. We are looking to connect to their mission and provide a new way for us to work with our community. To help that to happen we will be hosting a table on the patio on Sunday, May 12. To further our connection, they will be providing the program for our Men’s Breakfast on May 18. Thrivent Financial will be hosting the breakfast as well. Everyone is invited to participate in this new ministry opportunity, or at least enjoy a nice breakfast and some fellowship. Breakfast will be served at 9:00.

Journeying Through Grief by Kenneth C. Haugk This four-part book series is an excellent resource for anyone going through the pain and loss of a loved one. While the series was intended as a guide for the loss of a loved one through death, the information also pertains to any hurting heart due to the loss of a loving relationship such as a divorce, a friendship, or a lost relationship with your child, parent or sibling. His books are short, easy to read and packed full of helpful information, while also giving comfort and encouragement to help you along this journey we call grieving. If you are in need or know someone with a hurting heart the books can be found on the Stephen Ministry bookrack in the Church narthex. “In a sense, grieving is actually a show of faith. We are trusting God to hold us in our most vulnerable time, when our feelings are raw, our life is in pieces, and our strength is gone. If that isn’t faith, I’m not sure what is.” Excerpt from “Journeying Through Grief” Calling all persons interested in caring for others in crisis. More Stephen Ministers are needed. A Stephen Minister is compassionate, trustworthy, skilled in listening, and relies on God as the Healer of all wounds. Training classes will begin in early/ late summer. If interested, please contact our Stephen Minister Leaders—Pastor Nate, Kathy Follmer, Gary Jaus, or Ruth Andersen.

For Gather’s May 2019 Intergenerational devotional, the Rev. Christa von Zychlin brings us “Two way blessings,” a study of intergenerational relationships in Scripture. Looking at the stories of Miriam, Anna and Simeon, as well as the miracle feeding of the 5,000, we’ll see how God uniquely shares wisdom among each of us—and how our lives are enriched in community with all ages! Theme Verse: “One generation shall laud your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts” (Psalm 145:4). Author, Christa von Zychlin has served Lutheran churches around the world through ELCA Global Mission. She currently pastors Trinity Lutheran Church of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
