2018 Athlete Code of Conduct - Spring I realize that the role of a Cheerleader/Dancer is an honor, privilege, and carries with it an enormous responsibility. I am aware that as a Cheerleader/Dancer, I not only generate enthusiasm, but also have to control and direct it so it always makes a loud and positive statement of good sportsmanship. As an ambassador of spirit and enthusiasm, I am quite visible in the public eye, so that what I do and say, whether good or bad, has tremendous consequences upon the respect ascribed to me, other MJW Cheerleaders/Dancers, The MJW Organization and the fans. MJW strives to teach the values of hard work, teamwork, sound fundamentals, and dealing with winning and losing in a constructive way. Therefore I have an obligation to: • • • • • •

Follow all MJW and IRCA rules and regulations at all times. Learn to the best of your ability, cheerleading and dance, in accordance with the guidelines set by the IRCA and MJW. Promote interest and enthusiasm around all fans at all games. Encourage good sportsmanship and respect for the opposing team, its Cheerleaders/Dancers, fans and the officials by setting a good example. Support our team – win or lose. Proper attire is required at practice. This includes practice shorts or stretch pants (no denim), uniforms per directors’ instructions, gym shoes with laces and backs. No Jewelry or watches allowed. (Coaches will not be held responsible for items left behind.) Hair must be pulled back and off of face. NO long, acrylic overlays or false fingernails will be permitted. NO nail polish. Expect to be treated and to treat all members of squad respectfully (this includes Directors, Coaches and other Athletes). There is a no tolerance policy. Proper behavior and respect will be shown toward directors and coaches as well as teammates and other franchise Cheerleaders/Dancers at all times. NO abusive language gestures toward directors, coaches or Cheerleaders/Dancers, swearing, ridicule or mocking, at practice, games, any MJW sponsored event, on social media (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter), or via email. If not followed proper disciplinary action will be taken, and decided by the MJW board. At the coach’s discretion, you may be benched from a competition if you do not know the routine within two weeks of the competition. Ensure the athlete attends all practices. Cheer and Dance is a team sport, with each athlete having a required place in routines. When one member is absent it can keep a whole team from achieving their goals for that practice, jeopardize the safety of all of those involved in mount/stunt groups, and prevent some athletes from practicing portions of a routine. • Be dependable. Be on time. This includes all Practices, Games and Athletes are responsible for notifying the Director in advance if they will not be in attendance (i.e. due to illness). • If an athlete does not attend a practice or a game and does not notify the Director prior to the event, that athlete will be immediately dismissed. • All practices are mandatory. The routines require the participation of all athletes and to ensure the utmost safe conditions all athletes must be in attendance. • Athletes are expected to be on time to practices, games and competitions. Recurring tardiness is a reason for dismissal.

Athletes are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from MJW events. Directors are not responsible for providing transportation for athletes. Any requests for exceptions to these rules must be submitted in advance. Requests must be submitted in writing (via email) to the Director who will bring the request to the Executive Board. Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The decision of the Executive Board is final. There will be NO exceptions granted for the 1-week period before any Competition.

Disciplinary Actions MJW has a NO TOLERANCE Policy. No Director, Coach or athlete shall tolerate abuse or disrespect from an athlete within the program, regardless of whether the athlete is on the same team or another team. Disciplinary action by the manager is allowed when conduct exceeds respectable limits. If you are disrupting a practice/game for whatever reason and/or bullying a team mate, immediate corrective action will be assigned by your Director. Your Director will have full authority to take disciplinary action deemed necessary, which can include removal from practice, or removal from competitions or removal from your squad if the infraction occurs during mandatory competition time. I have read and do understand, to the best of my ability, the guidelines, the disciplinary actions taken and the agreement and code of conduct.
