MEDIA RELEASE 8 December 2014 Navitas Education Trust calls for grant submissions Leading global education provider Navitas has today launched the 2016 Navitas Education Trust (NET) grant application process with a call for submissions from education-focused charities and not-for-profit organisations. The NET was established by Navitas in 2013 to support a variety of charitable organisations and activities. Each year Navitas will contribute financially to the NET, with funding supporting education-based initiatives developed in partnership with charities as well as invested for future use. In July 2014 Navitas announced that four projects would be funded in the 2015 financial year to help improve access to and take up of education. These included:  partnering with the Australian Business and Community Network to provide scholarships to Australian high-need, low-SES, high school students to support them to enter higher education;  working with Room to Read to create 12 new libraries in underprivileged schools in Sri Lanka and Nepal as well as to write and produce local language books;  supporting Hagar to fund their Empower through Education Program to help restore the lives of women and children that have been devastated by severe human rights abuses in Afghanistan; and  helping Classroom of Hope to create child friendly school environments in seven primary schools in rural Cambodia. “We are pleased to be entering our third year of the Navitas Education Trust and excited to be able to support a new round of deserving and valuable charities,” Navitas Group CEO Rod Jones said. “The successful organisations will receive their funds from 1 July 2015. That’s not that far away so we would encourage any organisations looking for funding to ensure they get their applications submitted in time.” Applications to the NET must be received by Navitas by 15 February 2015. More information, including how to apply, is available on the Community page of Navitas’ Corporate Responsibility site.
