Meeting Our Tanzania Scholarship Students I was blessed with the opportunity a few weeks ago to travel to Tanzania with my dad and nine other members from Southwood. There were many things to take away from this trip but one of the most prominent was meeting our scholarship students. Our family has supported several scholarship students over the past seven years. This was the first time we got the opportunity to meet our current scholarship students, Gift and Emmanuel, in person. Putting a voice to handwriting truly strengthened our relationship with them. We compared sports, classes at school, daily routines, favorite foods, and our families. They also expressed their gratitude for our support which made us feel so grateful for our ability to not only support them but meet them. Gift and I have similar aspirations of becoming teachers, so we shared our thoughts on our passion for education. Emmanuel and my dad, John, share a passion for engineering and so they talked about their love for math and science. Witnessing Gift’s and Emmanuel’s aspirations put my own into perspective. I realized just how easily I take my own education for granted and how often I neglect to think about other students my age who face significant adversity with their education. I’m thankful that through Christ, we were able to connect with and support Gift and Emmanuel with their studies.
