FREE PROMOTION SHOPEASTKY.COM The Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce supports our local retailers. The demise of small towns across America has forced many development organizations to look inward for solutions to the current economic crisis. Many of these towns have seen shopping malls, larger towns, home shopping channels, and the internet lure shoppers away from these areas. The SEKC has launched our own “buy local” campaign in an effort to reverse this trend and support local businesses. Local members of the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, post customized in-store coupons for local customers on sekchamber.com. This will ensure that a business’s information is available to other Chamber members and local customers throughout this entire shopping season. These coupons will be available at www.shopeastky.com. We will be promoting these coupons via our newsletter, radio, newspaper, Facebook, email, flyer, postcards etc. Our primary goals are to strengthen and grow the local economy and to spread the word about the great but often unrecognized services our local community offers.

BUSINESS AFTER HOURS Business After Hours is an event that is the perfect opportunity for Chamber members to invite the community and other Chamber members to visit and experience their business first-hand in a relaxed, social setting. Business After Hours events benefit all attendees as it is an excellent Chamber networking opportunity to discuss and share ideas as well as add new contacts and resources while learning about the host business. Business After Hours events take place monthly in a location designated by the host company. Hilton Garden Inn Business After Hours

POLITICAL ADVOCACY As an advocate for our members, the Chamber is committed to keeping all Chamber members informed of issues that may affect your business. While we do not publicly endorse any particular candidate, we do want to provide you information that may help you make an educated decision as to who you support and to know how our legislators are representing or not representing the interests of small business by their vote on bills. The Chamber as a united voice of regional business has the Power to be Heard. The Chamber hosts thepowertobeheard.com as a resource for Chamber members to track, view, and contact elected officials regarding Kentucky legislation of interest that may impact the region.

The Chamber emails the membership an Annual Legislative Survey. Chamber members anonymously vote and comment on legislation of interest and the Chamber utilizes the results to gauge the business community’s support for legislation. The results are also complied and mailed to regional elected officials.

The Chamber leadership is in constant com-

munication with government and elected officials to stay on the forefront of bills or regulations that could impact the regional business climate. •

The Chamber Board of Directors annually selects a slate of filed bills to monitor that could potentially have positive or negative impact on the business climate in eastern Kentucky. The Board then decides on whether to support or oppose the legislation. If the legislation could have extreme impact (positive or negative) to the region, the Chamber will call up on Chamber members to write letters and send emails to representatives to ensure the business community’s voice is heard.
