Next week is the STAAR. If your child is absent this week or picked up early, they will miss key instruction that cannot be made up. Mr. Trueblood will NOT have tutoring this week for 7th grade math. All will be taken care of in class. There will NOT be any tutoring in 6th grade math. All will be taken care of in class. All other Tutoring sessions ARE STILL HAPPENING. IDEA Public Schools does NOT have flex weeks in our calendar. May 16 – 20 are FINAL exams to determine retention or no retention since STAAR results will not be in until June 15th. Scholars of the Week
College Cup Victories
Last week, these were the scholars who exemplified our CORE values in their academic work, effort and progress on our campus.
On Thursday the homeroom battled in the last all homeroom challenge of the 2015-2016 school year. In 7th grade the homeroom of Courage was victorious! In 6th grade there was tie between the homerooms of Determination and Optimism. It was a great way to end the school year College Cup battles!

College Signing Day Field Lesson Our scholars took the trip down to the RGV to witness College Signing Day. Our scholars were able to see IDEA seniors show off the colleges they were attending for their college education.

Sports Update It’s Teacher Appreciation week! Our teachers have worked hard all year with our scholars and this week, we show them how much we appreciate them.
Parents STAAR letter Last week parents received a letter from me for STAAR testing days for their scholars. Please turn these materials in to your scholar’s homeroom teacher by this Friday May 5th. If you need additional copies, please email Mrs. Martin at

Please check with your scholar on sports updates daily, the rainy weather has forced the field to be closed on many practice days as it drains. Please keep this in mind when scheduling after school pick up for them.
Operations Update
For scholars with perfect attendance they will receive a weekly Popsicle or ice cream sandwich and monthly they will be entered into a drawing for 2 movie tickets!
STAAR Prep and Review We are now 5 school days away from the Math STAAR for both 6th and 7th grade and 6 school days from the Reading STAAR for 6th and 7th grade. Please support your scholar by being present in school each day for the full school day.
West Wing If your scholar did not complete his/her lifework, then s/he must attend West Wing from 3:45 – 5:15pm.
Birthdays We will not celebrate birthdays by bringing candy, cakes, cupcakes, balloons nor treats of any kind to school, nor be out of uniform.
Dismissal time reminders
NEW HOURS: School Store: Bear Den
Unless scholars are enrolled in Bear Care or attending tutoring or other authorized IDEA Monterrey Park club or athletics, dismissal time remains 4:10. Scholars will be instructed to call their parents if they are here after dismissal has concluded.
The Bear Den will be open for scholars to purchase items with their scholar dollars from 7:10 – 7:30am, Tuesdays & Fridays.
CELL PHONE POLICY If a scholar takes their cell phone out on school grounds the following consequences will occur: IDEA Monterrey Park College Prep 222 SW 39th Street San Antonio, TX 78237 (210) 239-4200 www.ideapublicschools.org
First offense: Cell phone will be returned at the end of the day to the scholar. Second offense: Cell phone will be returned at the end of the day to a parent. Third Offense: Cell phone will be placed on a 30 day hold in the school office and returned to a parent/legal guardian with a $10.00 fine.
Every scholar will have at least one book in their possession at all times.
Fourth offense: Cell phone will be returned on May 27th at 3:45pm and returned to a parent/legal guardian with a $10.00 fine.
EARLY PICK-UPS Leaving early= miss key instructional time. We encourage you to avoid taking your child out of school early. Please schedule appointments after school hours or on one of our many days off.
