Greetings families. I would first like to thank all of the parents that chaperoned our Field lesson to the San Antonio Museum of Art. I would also like to take the time to point out the days we are CLOSING SCHOOL throughout the school year. These exist in part, so you can take your children to doctors’ appointments and have 3 dayweekends. Please resist pulling out your scholars on days school is in session. They miss valuable inclass instruction that cannot be made up with worksheets, or miss District assessments that cannot be made up. Thank you for putting instruction first. It has come to my attention that there are parents who come to the school to speak with me and hope I am available. DO NOT take such a chance, just get in contact with Mrs. Pacheco, my Administrative Assistant who can point you in the right direction and/or set up an appointment for you. I leave you with the words of the poet José de Diego: If suffering comes unabated, If weariness weighs down your spirit, Do as the once barren tree: FLOURISH And like the planted seed: RISE Do as the river rich with new rainwater…GROW

Uniforms

CELL PHONE POLICY

All scholars are required to wear their uniforms every day. In College Prep, scholars will receive a Bear Card which will indicate which part of the uniform is incorrect or missing. The uniform consists of IDEA polo shirt, khaki Dickies, black belt, all black shoes and white socks. For colder weather, scholars may wear a white or black long-sleeve shirt under their IDEA polo. If any of their items are missing, they will be loaned unattractive plastic booties to wear over their shoes, tube socks, and an identifiable belts, and will lose scholar dollars.

We recognize the need for scholars to have cell phones for a number of different personal reasons. To ensure the focus is on instruction during school hours, scholars will not be allowed to

On Fridays, scholars are allowed to wear the Friday uniform consisting of a college shirt or IDEA spirit shirt, jeans pants (with no rips, tears or frayed), black belt, white socks and black shoes.

Second offense: Cell phone will be returned at the end of the day to a parent.

Jackets: Any jacket can be worn to school in College Prep, but ONLY the IDEA jacket can be worn inside the building during the school day. The IDEA polo can NOT be worn with Jeans.

DOWN TO THE BEAR OPS Child Nutrition Program All scholars have free breakfast daily!

Parent Ambassadors We are still accepting a few more applications for our parent ambassadors. Please stop by the front office from 9:00 am to 1:00pm to sign up.

AFTER SCHOOL PICK UP Pick up time has actually decreased this year despite adding 250 more scholars. We ask that parents do not arrive any earlier than 3:10 pm as communicated to us by SAPD. This is for the safety of all of our parents and so that traffic doesn’t back up on to Commerce street.

use their phones on school grounds. If a scholar takes their cell phone out during the school day the following consequences will occur:

First offense: Cell phone will be returned at the end of the day to the scholar.

Third offense: Cell phone will be placed on a 30 day hold in the school office and returned to a parent/legal guardian with a $10.00 fine. Fourth offense: Cell phone will be returned on May 27th at 3:45pm and returned to a parent/legal guardian with a $10.00 fine. BOOK POLICY We want each scholar to be constantly learning. In order to relentlessly give our scholars new information and vocabulary, every scholar will have at least one book in their possession at all times. Scholars will be expected to read during morning hallways while they are waiting for home room to open as well as reading during breakfast time. EARLY PICK-UPS When scholars leave early, they miss key instructional time. This can lead to students falling behind. For this reason, we encourage you to avoid taking your child out of school early. Please schedule appointments after school hours IDEA Monterrey Park College Prep 222 SW 39th Street San Antonio, TX 78237 (210) 239-4200 www.ideapublicschools.org
