Message from the Principal CONTACT US IDEA Monterrey Park 222 SW 39th Street San Antonio, TX 78237 (210) 239 – 4200 www.ideapublicschools.org Office Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. _____________________ Curtis Lawrence College Prep Principal Jessica Pacheco Principal’s Administrative Assistant

Greetings Monterey Park families. Last week, although a short week there were several things going on. The Academy organized a book fair for the whole campus, and we had our attendance raffle for the Rodeo and to see Pitbull perform. Most importantly it was an intense week of tutoring. Make sure your scholar is here every day and is in tutoring if assigned – there is NO such thing as make-up, there is only falling behind and trying to catch up. I want to limit the number of scholars in that predicament. On another note, as of February 5th, Mr. Wallace – the 7th Grade ELA teacher is no longer with us. Mr. Gutierrez, who was the former #1 7th grade ELA teacher in all of IDEA, will finish out the school year. In only the week Mr. Gutierrez has been in there, our performance in 7th grade writing has steadily shot up, and our scholars are back on track to meet their goals.

Ramon Gutierrez Assistant Principal of Instruction

Ken Tyrell Assistant Principal of Operations

Maya Martin Academic Counselor

As always, I leave you with the words of the poet José de Diego: If suffering comes unabated, If weariness weighs down your spirit, Do as the once barren tree: FLOURISH And like the planted seed: RISE Do as the river rich with new rainwater…GROW Mr. C. F. Lawrence Jr. College Prep Principal

Teacher Surveys go home today

MoPa PARENT BOOSTER Club

Scholars will receive surveys regarding our campus today. Each year we work to improve our performance with both scholars and staff members at our campus. Please complete the surveys and return them no later than Wednesday February 17th, 2016.

We are polling parents to gain interest of creating a Booster club. This would be an opportunity for parents to help with events on campus. Some of the responsibilities would include: assisting in fundraising, event set up, event clean up. Would you be interested? Please email [email protected].

STAAR Countdown is on! 7th grade is counting down to the Writing STAAR next month. Scholars have very little time until they will take an exam based only on writing on March 29th, 2016. It is IMPORTANT for scholars to be here bell to bell. There is NO RETAKE of the STAAR.

Culinary Arts Activities Some of our scholars focused on how to shop for and prepare food. This week our scholars were able to whip up some tasty treats!

6th grade Chaperones needed On March 5th our scholars in 6th grade will attend their first college visit as MoPa Bears to UT at Austin. We are still in need of at least 2 more chaperones additional to those that have communicated interest to us. Please reach out via email to: [email protected]
