Message from the Principal CONTACT US

Greetings Monterrey Park Families. This week is our last week of school in November. This Friday, they will have district exams to take, and then will have an opportunity to celebrate almost 4 months of work at their Fall Dance on Friday – organized by the Student Council. Parents, you can drop them off and then return to pick them up at 8pm.

I hope next week, you have the opportunity to spend time with your families, take your children to the doctor for any medical concerns you may have. If any of you need child care for your 6th or 7th grader, the Sonny Melendrez Community Center across from the school has Thanksgiving Camp for $3 per day from Monday – Wednesday. It runs 7:30 – 5:30pm. Please stop by the Center to sign your child up for those 3 days.

Happenings around College Prep To kick of basketball season for IDEA Monterrey Park our scholars took on the staff of Monterrey Park. The Lady Bear were victorious over the Staff Lady Bears with a score of 1813. Our male Bears weren’t able to take over the Staff Male Bears.

Clubs for our Bear Cubs! Scholars are still able to join some of our clubs on campus. Our current active clubs are now AMP Mentoring, Capoeira. Chess, Gardening, Girl Power, Peer Mentors, Robotics, Spelling, Student Council and S.W.A.T. (Scholars Working Around Town). Please note days of meetings below. Tacky Day: Scholars may add crazy under shirts, silly socks and mix matched accessories to their uniform. Decade day (dress up from the 60s, 70s 80s, or 90s). Camo day. (Scholars may wear camouflage shirts, with uniform pants or bottoms and socks and all black shoes.) Fancy Friday: Dance Ready!

This week PE will be on Tuesday and Friday. The Boys’ and Girls’ basketball teams have been announced. Please speak with Coach Brown for practice times.

West Wing If your scholar did not complete his/her lifework, then s/he must attend West Wing from 3:45 – 5:15pm.

Birthdays We will not celebrate birthdays by bringing candy, cakes, cupcakes, balloons nor treats of any kind to school, nor be out of uniform.

School Store: Bear Den The Bear Den will be open for scholars to purchase items with their scholar dollars from 7:10 – 7:30am, Mondays & Fridays.

Uniforms The uniform consists of IDEA polo shirt, khaki Dickies, black belt, all black shoes and white socks.

DOWN TO THE BEAR OPS

 Remember all students get free breakfast every day! Breakfast starts at 7:30 am and instruction starts promptly at 7:45 am. Scholars that eat breakfast have improved attendance and less tardiness. Scholars have FREE breakfast each day!  Late pick up students – after 4:30 pm students are escorted to Bear Care where parents will be charged a $5.00 per late pick up fee. If your child is in Bear Care and you pick up after 6:30 pm you will be charged a $5.00 per late pick up fee.

CELL PHONE POLICY If a scholar takes their cell phone out on school grounds the following consequences will occur:

First offense: Cell phone will be returned at the end of the day to the scholar.

Second offense: Cell phone will be returned at the end of the day to a parent. Third Offense: Cell phone will be placed on a 30 day hold in the school office and returned to a parent/legal guardian with a $10.00 fine. Fourth offense: Cell phone will be returned on May 27th at 3:45pm and returned to a parent/legal guardian with a $10.00 fine. BOOK POLICY Every scholar will have at least one book in their possession at all times. EARLY PICK-UPS When scholars leave early, they miss key instructional time. This can lead to students falling behind. For this reason, we encourage you to avoid taking your child out of school early. Please schedule appointments after school hours or one of our many days off
