WEEK OF August 19, 2018 I Corinthians 1:10-17

CONNECT 1. What stood out to you the most from Pastor Troy’s message on Sunday?

GROW 2. Read 1 Corinthians 1:10-17. What was dividing the church in Corinth? Why do you think the Corinthian church was divided like this?

3. What are some of the things that divide churches today and what are the things that we should be united by as a church?

4. Why does God hate divisions in the church so much? Have you experienced divisions in a church, if so, what happened?

5. Read Psalm 133:1-3. How would you know if a church was experiencing disunity? Explain.

6. Read Philippians 4:1-3. How would you restate Paul’s opening statement and what did he ask the Philippians to do?

7. What care and affection did Paul have for the people to whom he was writing? How does having deep and meaningful relationships make conflict resolution both easier and more difficult?

8. What appears to have been the problem between Euodia and Syntyche and what guidance did Paul offer the Philippian church for resolving the divide between these two women?

9. Why is unity in the church so difficult to achieve and maintain, and what is really at stake?

10. Read 2 Timothy 2:24 and Matthew 5:9. How should we respond when we become aware of conflict, and why is it not meddling if we intervene in a situation of disagreement or conflict in our church? Why does the Bible call us to be peacemakers?

GO 11. Is there anyone with whom you need to resolve conflict? What practical steps do you need to take this week in response to God’s Word?

12. How should you handle conflict that arises within your group? How would you like someone to approach you if they took issue with something you did or said?
