Messy; Foundation WEEK OF September 30, 2018 I Corinthians 3:10-15

CONNECT 1. What stood out to you the most from Pastor Troy’s message on Sunday?

2. What things would you say are foundational in your life for the way you live?

GROW 3. Read 1 Corinthians 3:10-15. How would you summarize the key message from Paul in this passage?

4. Paul talks about the importance of building a firm foundation. What is the actual foundational work that God has given His church to do, and why is the ministry of the gospel a team effort?

5. Read Matthew 7:24-27. Why do you think that Jesus compares one who follows His words to a man who has built his foundation of a house on a rock? Why do you think that Jesus’ words astonished the crowd?

6. How does someone establish his or her foundation in Christ, and what does that look like practically?

7. When we think about building a structure on that essential foundation, it is brick by brick. What are some of the “bricks,” or spiritual disciplines, that lead to a life that honors Christ?

8. What are some examples of wind, rain, and floods that come into a person’s life and how do spiritual disciplines prepare you beforehand and help when these storms come? If you can, give personal examples of how you have seen this played out in your own life.

9. How does someone without Christ deal with adversity? Why might similar “disciplines” in their lives simply not be enough to help?

10. How have you, or could you, talk about the truth of these of the verses from both 1 Corinthians 3 and Matthew 7 with someone whose life is not built on the foundation of Christ?

12. Who can you pray for right now whose life is built on sand and what can you do this week to help them?
