CARRY ON THE CONVERSATION (Each week we use this space to provide a glimpse into what our children are learning in Children’s Worship, and what you might ask to “carry on the conversation” with them at home.)

The lighting of the Bethlehem candle - God ordained the King of Kings to be born in a small town just 5 miles south of Jerusalem. Bethlehem was a tiny spec on the map of the vast Roman Empire. Yet this “little town of Bethlehem” has a unique place in history. Bethlehem is noted for being the hometown of Israel’s most famous King, King David. The true story of how God redeemed a shepherd boy and made him Israel’s great King all began in Bethlehem. Key Theme: The Bible should be obeyed, not just read. James 1:22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Ask: What makes it hard to be a doer? How can we be doers of the Word of God? How does being a doer of the Word bring blessings? CHILDREN’S MINISTRY ADVENT RESOURCE – WHY? It is the time to prepare for the coming of Jesus. WHERE? It starts in your heart, and then the love and joy of preparing for Jesus Christ will reach homes, Churches and the whole town! Look for the Children's Ministry Advent table on the 2nd floor of the Education Building! We will have one of the following available per family. • Advent A to Z - Spend time each day of December praying through the alphabetical Advent poems contained in this thoughtful booklet that helps children connect the sights and sounds of the season to the coming of the Christ Child in a fun and familiar way. From Angels and Eggnog to Stars and Wreaths, these prayers by Arden Mead provide a daily guide for children of all ages as they prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birthday • It All Points To Heaven - This colorful, tree-shaped magnet is a great hand out for each child in church. The magnet easily separates into 6 magnets: an Angel, a Donkey, 2 Sheep, the Star and Baby Jesus. Children can play with the magnet manger scene and arrange it any way they wish on their refrigerator at home. WOMEN’S CIRCLES (Bible Study and Fellowship) – The MORNING CIRCLE will meet Monday, December 10 at the home of Carole Lawton, 7 Forest Lane NE, 706-291-7318, at 11:00am. Join us for a Christmas program and luncheon. Please bring a dish to share and guests are most welcome. How does the parable Jesus told of the scattered seed draw us to the manger? As we celebrate this beautiful season together, come and experience a visit to Bethlehem on that night of all nights. Morning Circle meets the second Monday of each month in the homes of members of our church. The EVENING CIRCLE will meet on Tuesday, December 11, Room CLC #204 at 6:30pm. Evening Circle meets the second Tuesday of each month at the church. Please bring your Bible. CHRISTMAS POINSETTIAS – To order, please fill out one of the red poinsettia cards in the pew rack. Make your check to FPC and note “Poinsettia” in the lower left hand corner. The bulletin will list who the poinsettia is in memory or honor of and name the person(s) giving the poinsettia. The cost is $10.00 per poinsettia. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES – Are you looking for an opportunity to serve? FPC IS HOSTING A “PERSPECTIVES” CLASS 15 Challenging Topics | 15 World-Class Speakers | 15 Life-Changing Weeks Ever since the beginning of creation, God has been on a mission to draw people from every tribe, tongue, and nation to Himself. "Perspectives on the World Christian Movement" is a fifteen-week discipleship course designed to give you a fresh and deeper understanding of God’s redemptive plan for all of mankind and how you can participate in it. The class is divided into four sections: Biblical (Lessons 1-5): With striking clarity, God's unchanging promises are illuminated from Genesis to Revelation. Historical (Lessons 6-9): From Abraham to the present day, you'll walk in the shoes of the believers who have paved the way and set the stage to thread all of us into God's story for His glory. Cultural (Lessons 10-11): You will experience and learn how God is threading diverse people into His story in culturally relevant ways. Strategic (Lessons 12-15): Getting threaded into the story is about discovering practical and strategic opportunities to use your own personal story, passions, training, and expertise for His glory at home or abroad. Each section provides a new lens through which students will continually see the common theme of God's heart for His people. Students will prepare for each class by reading articles from a diverse group of writers and completing review assignments and personal responses designed to engage every aspect of a Christian’s life. The most unique aspect of the class is the diversity and quality of the instructors. A new instructor every week keeps the course fresh and exciting as students hear from Biblical scholars, missionaries, pastors, professors, and mobilizers who all bring a wealth of experience and passion to each lesson!
