Ministry Residency Program at Denver Seminary INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: YOUTH INTERN LOCATION: Bergen Park Church ABOUT: Bergen Park Church is a growing church in Evergreen, CO. Bergen Park Church is a member of the Evangelical Free Church of America, an association of autonomous churches united around ten theological convictions (see http://bergenparkchurch.org/about-us/what-we-believe/). The term ‘Evangelical’ refers to our commitment to the proclamation of the Gospel and the authority of Scripture. The term ‘Free’ refers to our form of church government which establishes an autonomous local church ‘free’ from a central controlling body. Bergen Park Church moved into a new facility in March and has been experiencing significant growth. Providing this outreach to youth will support spiritual growth in our kids and opportunity to grow in the number of kids we can serve. It is an exciting time to be on staff at Bergen Park Church! SUMMARY: The Youth Intern at Bergen Park Church will form and lead a ministry focused on Middle School students (6th-8th grade). The Intern will work with an adult leadership team and be under the general supervision of the senior pastor and the children’s director. Applicants should have the desire and ability to minister to youth – be a “kid magnet.” Applicants should be able to share their passion for Jesus with youth, helping our students gain a thirst for the Word, a heart for people, and a longing for God, while building up Christ-centered families..

CHARACTER PROFILE: This position requires a person of strong Christian character. The qualifications include: • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings as schedule allows • Can agree with and is committed to the theology, mission, and vision of BPC. • Will become an active member of the BPC church community. TUITION CONSIDERATION:

$3,000 10% tuition discount Taxable Living Stipend: Yes based on hours/experience

ESTIMATED TIME COMMITMENT: 15 hours per week OBJECTIVES: This is a great opportunity to gain experience building up a ministry with a lot of freedom and support! Bergen Park Church does not currently have a youth program, although we have a good relationship with Mountain Area YoungLife. The applicant would have the responsibility to form an adult leadership team and create two Middle School focused opportunities per week. Some other responsibilities might include the following:

The applicant would be responsible for teaching the Middle School Sunday School class that currently runs from 15 to 20 students each Sunday. The applicant would be responsible for working with the adult leadership team to plan and host a mid-week evening youth group gathering. This gathering would be focused on Middle School students and would seek to build community and relationships through fun activities, build Bible knowledge through a spiritual component (although not necessarily a Bible study), and provide a worship and prayer time. The applicant would be responsible to mentor kids one-on-one as necessary and to help the adult leadership team create mentoring opportunities. The applicant would be responsible for leading kids in community service projects. The applicant would be responsible for developing an outreach to High School students. This could begin by simply encouraging them to participate in YoungLife activities and may include developing an adult Sunday School teacher interested in High School ministry and working with the adult leadership team to provide other opportunities to High School students.

DEFINITION OF THE MINISTRY RESIDENCY PROGRAM: By Definition the Residency Program is an Internship and contains the following: 1. Similar ministry training as that available in and through schooling for future clergy; 2. This training is for the benefit of the trainee; 3. Resident is not a replacement for a regular employee, but works under close observation; 4. This program is considered to be of greater value to the trainee than to the employer; 5. Trainees are not necessarily entitled to a job at the completion of the program; 6. Employer and trainee understand that trainees are not entitled to wages for the time spent in training.
