Ministry Residency Program at Denver Seminary INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Education Intern LOCATION: Save Our Youth About: http://www.saveouryouth.org/ The Education Intern assists the education director as he/she manages the three Save Our Youth programs the organization utilizes to support the academic development of our students, Summer Academy, College Prep and College Scholars.

ESTIMATED TIME COMMITMENT: Part-time from Jan.-April/Sept-Dec; Full-time May-August. RESPONSIBILITIES: Summer Academy Save Our Youth’s Summer Academy provides participants with a unique opportunity to advance their academic performance, no matter what academic level they have achieved. • The Education Intern is responsible for the recruitment and retention of summer academy interns. This includes: o Creating and maintaining recruitment materials o Attending intern/job fairs o Online recruitment system tracking, follow-up o Intern interviews and selection with Education Director o College visits o Coordinate and attend church group recruitment • Intern retention is crucial, it is the Education Interns responsibility to maintain these relationships by: o Creating a meaningful internship experience that expands their learning through a cohort program o Manage extracurricular activities such as Rockies games, BBQ’s, hikes, etc. o Consistent communication with interns throughout the year College/Career Prep College/Career Prep is a program designed to prepare our senior level students for college or a career they may be interested in. Our goal is to get our seniors, spiritually, emotionally and logistically prepared for the next steps after high school. The Education Intern is responsible for: • Preparing bi-weekly meetings pertaining to the college track o Selecting the right college o Applying to colleges o FAFSA o Scholarships o Personal Statements o Resumes o Interviewing • Create engaging meeting times by ordering food, preparing icebreakers, devotional, along with the college topic being covered • Recruit and maintain volunteers and guest speakers

• Research up to date college information • Manage College/Career Prep data on Civicore College Scholars Once our students take the next steps after high school into the college arena, it is our responsibility to maintain a supportive relationship with these students. The Education Intern would be responsible for: • Semester Check-Ins with a designated list of students covering: o Grades o Financial Aid o Housing/roommates o Next semester class selection • Bi-Monthly Check-Ins with students o Face to Face or phone meetings o Be an encouragement o Pray with student • Civicore management of Scholars • Create and manage scholars report for donors

QUALIFICATIONS: 2-4 years in undergraduate work preferably with an emphasis in education or social work. • Experience working with culturally diverse/ economically disadvantaged populations. • Excellent organizational and administrative skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office. • Must be self-directed and able to demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks. • Program and Education Experience o Organized, multi tasking, dependable, self starter o Excellent people skills-builds relationships and develops open communication o Ability to work with diverse populations o Demonstrated problem solving skills • Combination of education and experience that provides the necessary foundation for mastering these job responsibilities

DEFINITION OF THE MINISTRY RESIDENCY PROGRAM: By Definition the Residency Program is an Internship and contains the following: 1.

Similar ministry training as that available in and through schooling for future clergy; 2. This training is for the benefit of the trainee; 3. Resident is not a replacement for a regular employee, but works under close observation; 4. This program is considered to be of greater value to the trainee than to the employer; 5. Trainees are not necessarily entitled to a job at the completion of the program; Employer and trainee understand that trainees are not entitled to wages for the time spent in training.
