MISSION STATEMENT The mission of St. John’s Lutheran Church is to create disciples of Jesus Christ who; CONNECT to God and His people in worship GROW together in God’s word through life groups, and SHARE Christ with our words, service and resources

SUMMARY: Provides academic instruction to the students of St. John’s Lutheran School in accordance with requirements set forth by the State of California, prepares and develops lesson plans and other instructional materials for assigned classes. Exemplifies the Christian philosophy of the St. John’s Lutheran Church mission statement in all aspects of day-to-day duties and responsibilities.

POSITION ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  Demonstrates values and attributes in connection with the faith being taught by St. John’s Lutheran Church, with the purpose of being a role model to employees and those being served.  Engages students and families in spiritual growth using their God-given talents.  Sets and tracks appropriate goals that seek to increase discipleship through CONNECT/GROW/SHARE.  Provides academic instruction to students in assigned subjects and age levels in accordance with Christian objectives and regulations established by the State of California and the Council of Schools.  Fosters and develops a Christian environment and provides counseling and Christian instruction to students at St. John's Lutheran School.  Plans, organizes and directs classroom activities; provides instructions, demonstrations and lectures as appropriate to subject and grade level assigned.  Organizes daily instruction and prepares lesson plans, outlines and schedules; develops subject plans and goals for class curriculum.  Utilizes enrichment and remedial activities in the classroom; communicates clearly and effectively using motivational techniques and positive reinforcement.  Operates, demonstrates and instructs students in the use of specialized instructional materials and equipment; utilizes various teaching methods, audio-visual aids, and technology tools as appropriate.  Scores and records grades; corrects, evaluates and grades papers, reports and other assignments; prepares report cards and maintains records of attendance and achievement.  Maintains consistent communication to students, parents, and administration through written and verbal means; and utilizes on a regular basis the online learning system. Monitors student-learning progress and adjusts instructional activities in accordance with individual differences. Evaluates and discusses student progress in academic achievement and deportment as well as physical, mental and spiritual development. Schedules conferences and meets with parents individually or at an open house setting. Maintains classroom and other instructional areas in a neat, clean and orderly condition; arranges desks for effective learning and behavior and maintains a seating chart; designs and prepares displays, exhibits and bulletin boards as appropriate. Participates in a variety of activities and events related to the School's overall educational program including athletics, art and science fairs, parent evenings, special worship services for children, dramatic productions and other extra-curricular activities. Supervises students on the playground and in lunch areas; assures appropriate student conduct and response to accidents and discipline problems in accordance with established procedures. Plans, conducts and supervises students on field trips. Attends faculty meetings, conferences and chapel services; participates in daily devotions and conducts brief meaningful worships in the classroom. Attends Church services regularly and is an active member regarding attendance at voters' meetings, parish events and utilizing a spiritual gift for another ministry. Trains, supervises and assists student teachers as assigned. Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:  Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree in education, childhood development or areas of specialization.  Active member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.  Must be CPR/First Aid certified and maintain training as applicable.  Communicates effectively through various methods.  Demonstrates teamwork through collaboration and cooperation.  Self-manages through prioritizing workload and effectively utilizing time to plan, prepare and execute.  Establishes goals and strategies to accomplish desired outcomes, doing so in an orderly, time efficient manner.  Uses technology throughout responsibilities and remains current.  Remains committed to continuing to learn in order to be effective.  Is proactive and self-motivated, demonstrates self-initiative that results in the education of students and the betterment of St. John’s Lutheran School.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Frequently engaged in standing, walking, sitting, using hands and arms, talking and hearing.  Occasionally engaged in climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.  Occasionally lifts up to 25lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus using peripheral vision and depth perception.
