Summer 2015

Monday-Friday, June 22-26, 6:30pm This June High Five Ministries has the opportunity to host our annual Vacation Bible School. This is a time of celebration for all the Lord our Savior has done for us. Every year we get to partner with many servantminded individuals that utilize their gifts and talents in unique and fun ways. It is always a joy to watch people come together for such a great cause. Last year we witnessed many children receive Christ for the first time and numerous others solidify their commitment to Him. This year’s VBS is called L.E.G.O. Life. Children who register and participate will attend our L.E.G.O. building center. At L.E.G.O. Life VBS children will learn that no matter how big or small, each person has a unique purpose as part of God’s blueprint for all creation. Focus will be placed on the importance of connecting to our Creator and to one another in life. Each night, children will learn building-block truths, learn lifebuilding verses, and experience bible stories as they explore God’s “Master Blueprint”, His Living Word. In addition, there will be nightly worship, crafts, fun games, and much, much more.

We are excited about the things God will orchestrate to see His word connect with children. As we celebrate a life with Christ that Loves, Evangelizes, Gives and Overcomes evil with good. Please register your child (4 years old through 4TH graders) and consider volunteering so you will not miss out on our mission to have an eternal impact in young lives. Children younger than 4 may attend with a parent. This year’s L.E.G.O. VBS will take place June 22ND through June 26TH, from 6:30pm to 8:30-ish. We will also be serving a light meal in the lobby for children and their families from 5:45-6:15pm. Core group meetings are scheduled the week of June 8TH to formalize expectations and plans for station areas and crew leader support. Feel free to contact Pastor Dan or Children’s Ministry Assistant, Steven Weese, with regard to any questions you have. You may contact them personally, by phone at 816.279.2090, or email at [email protected]. And don’t forget to check us out on our High Five Facebook page. Search Facebook for High Five Ministries. Updates will be provided weekly for VBS as well as other events that are happening.

As we take a break from G-3 groups through the summer, Pastor Darrell is going to take Wednesday evenings and teach a new 12-week session of Membership Classes. This is the same class that is normally presented over two quarters of Sunday School. If you couldn’t join the Sunday School class but have wanted to find out more about the history, beliefs, membership, and ministry of Grace Evangelical Church, here is your opportunity. Weekly classes will be held on Wednesdays, from 6:30-8pm in the church Library starting June 10TH and running through the end of August. Nursery care will be provided for children under age 4 if needed, and of course, our regular Student Midweek Activities will be held for Youth and Children on Wednesdays throughout the summer, only breaking on June 24TH for VBS.

We are kicking off a new Sunday Evening Bible Study for the summer, beginning May 24TH and running through August 30TH. Dave Burtis is leading this new study session on the book of James. The book of James looks a bit like the Old Testament book of Proverbs, dressed up in New Testament clothes. Its consistent focus on practical action in the life of faith encourages God’s people to “act” like God’s people. Whether you are a brand new Christian, or a seasoned believer, this verse-by-verse study through James will benefit you in your walk with Jesus. Join us Sunday nights this summer as we travel through this “rubber meets the road” book of the Bible. The Bible Study group plans to meet in the Library at 6:00pm most Sunday evenings throughout the summer, but there are a few schedule changes that should be noted:  June 7: Starting time is 5:30pm, due to the Baptism service at 6:30pm.  June 14: No Bible Study—instead we invite you to enjoy the New Generation Singers for a 6:30pm concert in the Sanctuary.  June 28: No Study—we will join the allchurch Holiday Picnic in Savannah.

“Fore The Lord” Noyes Home Benefit Friday, June 5TH!

There are still a few spots open for each session, but they are filling up fast. Deadline for team registration is May 29TH , 4:00pm. Fees must be paid at the time of registration to receive a tee-off time.

BAPTISM Date Changed

Due to scheduling conflicts, the Water Baptism Service has been pushed back a week. It will now be held on Sunday evening, June 7TH. We invite you to join us for this special service which will be held in the chapel at 6:30pm.

We still need donations of pop and water for the golfers. If you can help meet this need, please bring your donated items to the church office by Thursday afternoon, June 4TH. 19

ING = Inviting New Girlfriends

ING is the theme for the Grace Women’s Ministry group which is led by Jan Seitz. The Ladies of Grace welcome women of all ages to join them for various ING events that are scheduled through the year. These events offer women the opportunity to gather with their sisters in Christ to share in varied times of instruction, fellowship, encouragement, inspiration, and just plain fun. The next ING event on the calendar is Pamper.ing, scheduled for Saturday, August 22. There will be two phases to this event. First, from 9:00-11:30am, ladies can sign up to either PAMPER or be PAMPERED. That morning, women will go to homes and help other women with cleaning projects, like vacuuming, dusting, cleaning windows, organizing cabinets, weeding flower beds, etc. Then, at 1:00pm, the ladies will gather at the church to hear a guest speaker and enjoy the SPA PAMPERING STATIONS that will be offered. Snacks will be served, and childcare will be provided free of charge. Watch the July/ August bulletins and sign up to take part in this fun day. If you would like to be part of the planning process for this event, please join Jan at the high top tables in the church foyer at 10:40am on Sunday, June 7TH.

RENEWAL exists to bring God’s Truth & build community within the College & Young Professional age group: 1. To encourage participants to seek a vibrant relationship w/ Christ. 2. To share that relationship w/ others. 3. To recognize and use their gifts. 4. To realize worship is a daily encounter with God.

Coming Events

By definition, reset means to put back in the correct position for healing, like with a broken bone. Christ came and took our sin, which broke us from God, and He put us into a position of healing, covered in His blood. Reset Student Ministry is where our lives can be given a RESET, IN CHRIST! "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." 2 Corinthians 5:17 RESET Student Ministry exists for the purpose of reaching out to the lost and hurting of our community and world in the love of Christ, involving them in the Word, Worship and Service of God.

Mark you calendars for Friday, August 7TH , that’s when our “Moonlight 5K Run and Fun Walk” is scheduled to be held on the Mapleleaf Parkway. This event benefits the Catholic Charities Crisis Pregnancy Program right here in St. Joseph. We need your help to make this event successful. There are several ways in which you may be involved: 1) We need businesses to purchase corporate sponsorships at a cost of $200 each. (The name of the business will be printed on the back of the T-Shirts). If you know of a business that may be interested, sponsor forms are available at the church Information Desk. 2) You may either run or walk in our race. It’s great fun and good for you, too! Entry Fees are $20 if registered by July 28th and $25 after. Register online at www.enter2run.com no later than August 2nd. Or pick up a registration brochure form and bring it in to the church office by noon on race day. 3) You may volunteer to be a spectator, work at a drink station, be stationed at a barricade, work at the registration table, or help in a number of other ways. Just sign-up at church. Remember, this is a community outreach event. After the race, a message of salvation will be shared with the race participants giving them an opportunity to accept Christ. Please be praying for our plans and preparations and for the outreach of our event. 5

gards to values, which is why the school was willing for them to use God’s Word. The principal was so impressed he contacted the Board of Education. The board invited them to offer a workshop in ten high schools and nine elementary schools!

Michelle Haupt, Nicholle Haupt Wycliff - Tanzania Thanks for your prayers and messages of encouragement. As we attend classes and prepare to serve in Tanzania, we continue to be reminded of the significant change that happens in a community as a result of Bible translation. We praise God that we are getting much closer to completing our partnership team.

David & Marjorie Johnson YWAM – Southeast Asia We have six areas of need we encourage YWAMers (and the Body of Christ) to focus on. As we engage communities practically and spiritually in these six areas we find meeting these needs opens the door for the expansion of the Kingdom of God in these communities. The areas are: Community Development; Education; Destitute Peoples; Counseling; Disaster Relief and Primary Health Care.

Ryan & Monica Reeves Cru – Kansas City One of my (Monica’s) favorite things to do on staff is helping with Cru’s New Staff Trainings held just a few times a year. Earlier this year, I was in Daytona Beach, Florida, to help train about 70 new Cru staff members in the skills and Biblical foundation of fund-raising.

Crystal Davis Wycliffe – Papua New Guinea Miraculously, God opened the door to completing the New Testament for the Kandawo people. The whole NT has also been recorded and Kandawo people are over the moon about listening to their AudiBibles. We are seeing enthusiasm and softening of hearts which we’ve never seen before.

Joel & Heidi Hayslip Go to Nations – Burkina Faso This June, the Hayslips will be moving to the United States for 4 years. Jakob and Silas will be going to school and Joel and Heidi will begin writing the curriculum for the Go To Nations World Headquarters. Joel will make frequent trips to GTN World Headquarters and to Burkina each year to continue overseeing the ministry there, as well as branching out into new countries as doors open.

Linda Summer The Agape Puppets We are supporting Tika Ram Baral with funds so that he can help and comfort some of the many in Nepal who have lost everything. He is our puppet director there and will make sure that all help is connected to the Gospel. In one area, where I was last year, 99 per cent of the homes are on the ground. This is a poor place to begin with and spiritually dark.

Fran Pearce WGM – Arizona I can’t believe that this school year is in its final weeks. Preparations and planning will soon begin for the activities and the awards banquet. I will complete another term on the American Indian Field and will begin preparation for my year of Homeland Ministry Assignment.

Roger & Mary King Reaching the World—North Carolina In Hanoi, Vietnam, I ministered at a Bible School. The students have made the commitment and personal sacrifice to come to study the Word of God and train for the ministry to take it back to their villages. In Thailand I taught at their school in the north east. It was long days of teaching but very worthwhile seeing the hunger of the students.

David & Carol Cosby One Mission – Venezuela One of our graduates at the Wesleyan Seminary of Venezuela offered an Inductive Bible Study Workshop on 3 John at their child’s public school. They framed the study in re6

Paul & Ellie Madsen RCE International – Hungary As the work of ACSI Europe continues to grow, we can only praise Jesus for the amazing opportunities to reach others with the blessing of God’s love and truth. One new area of blessing is the online courses for teachers that Paul is helping to develop, coordinate, and teach. We already have teachers from 5 countries enrolled . David & Pam Ferguson WISE—St. Vincent WISE graduated 6 students in April with 3 returning to Jamaica and 3 returning to Haiti. After 35 years in St. Vincent, the school will move this summer to the island of Barbados. This is a great opportunity for moving our mission to the next level with a greater impact throughout the Caribbean. Mike & Sarah Wilson Branches 2:46—Spain We have been in Madrid for two years and have seen God working in the lives of our students and their families. We were able to see and take part in some of the ministries that Evangelical Christian Academy makes possible. We’ve seen our students’ parents working with Spaniards, Muslims, Africans, both young and old.

Upcoming Mission Trips Planned Please be in prayer about joining one of these mission teams: ►Good Shepherd Mission in Putter, India: December 28th, 2015-January 8th, 2016. The team will present a VBS, operate medical camps,

Karen Rickel WGM—Indiana As I’ve worked at the Pregnancy Help Center, I’ve seen many young women whose lives are in chaos. They seem to be unaware that God loves them unconditionally and wants to have a vital relationship with them. In February, my PET scan showed some improvement for the first time. The oncologist said I didn’t have to come back for six months instead of just three months as I had been doing.

and visit affiliate churches. The $2,250 cost covers all travel expenses, lodging, and meals. You may sign up and pick up an application form at the church Information Desk. The sign-up deadline is August 23RD. A deposit is due with the application. An informational meeting is set for 3:00pm on Sunday, June 7TH, in Room 206. For more details, talk with Gary Reynolds or email him at [email protected].

Jim & Connie Maxey Giving HOPE Ministries-Missouri In February, participated in a mission trip to Honduras (thank you Grace for the opportunity); In April traveled to Hodges ministry located in Decatur, AL, transporting nearly 3,000 pounds of Christian literature that will be processed for distribution to missionaries worldwide.

►Dump Ministry in Tegucigalpa, Honduras: February 12-19 & 19-26, 2016. These work & witness mission trips will involve construction and/ or other work projects for dump families, and helping at the school for the dump children. For details, contact Pastor Chris. 15

Missionaries with Cru in Florida Dear Missions Committee & Grace Family, Thank you for your faithful partnership through finances and prayer. It’s encouraging to know that you’re standing beside me here in the ministry of Bible translation in PNG. We are currently planning the 6TH Scripture Use Survey trip. This will be the 5TH trip I’ve been on, and I will be leading it. We are assessing whether or not translated New Testaments are being used and what factors help or hinder use. It was satisfying to hear a new translator say that because of these surveys he’s realized the need to change the way he’s working.

Thank you for your recent gift total of $2,483.28 sent through our Baby Bottle Campaign. Paisley is a child that your support made possible. Her mom came to our center with all intentions to follow through with an abortion. Because of the care and support she received here, she chose another path: LIFE! Thank you for all you do for the community. (I love my floor vents in my office.)

On behalf of those who will receive the life-saving gift of clean water, we want to thank you for your generous donation of $1200 to provide water filters to people in need. Because of your partnership, 30 separate families will receive a Filter of Hope and be presented with the gospel message of Jesus Christ. For us at Filter of Hope, we are so excited about our partnership with Grace and are anxious to see all the good we can accomplish together.

Ryan & Jamie Wagner

Thank you seems small compared to the many acts of kindness and thoughtfulness shown during our brother’s (Harold Broce) service. The cards, phone calls, and support (G3 groups and congregation) were so appreciated. Can’t forget the “Big Visit” from Tom Heath and the window God provided to say the sinner’s prayer. We are eternally grateful. The plant the church sent was beautiful. To Our Wonderful Missions Committee at Grace Evangelical Church: We wanted to thank you all so much for your generous $1000 gift sent at the beginning of the year for us and our ministry! A tremendous BLESSING! God is moving all over the world, and we’re thankful for your part! P.S. Having a baby any day now. Our new girl will need heart surgery and will be in the hospital for 4-6 weeks. Please pray for a wonderful surgery and quick recovery.
