Dear BACS Families, It seems there is never any shortage of excitement on the campus of a school. This statement is certainly true at 4800 West Main Street! So many end-of-the year events are taking place, and our students are achieving high marks of success! Our seniors are being awarded scholarships, our spring athletic teams are carving their way through the playoffs, our fine arts programs have been conducting stellar performances, and our students have been and will be traveling to Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Costa Rica! Additionally, we are on pace to set another high school enrollment record! While all these accolades are important – and definitely exciting – this is not the main focus. In times like these, we should be reminded about what makes BACS a special place. The answer to the question, “What makes BACS a special place?” is found in Psalm 37:4: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” We talk much about Kingdom Education: “a life-long, Bible-based, Christ-centered process of leading a child to Christ, building them up in Christ, and equipping them to serve Christ” (Schultz, 1989). One of the prefacing components of the definition is that it is Christ-centered. The thing that makes BACS special is that we strive to remove ourselves from the epicenter of our thought process. Instead, we focus on knowing and emulating Christ. When we do that, we elevate our thinking, our convictions, our treatment of others, and the most phenomenal thing is that when we do just that, our heart is content. Our selfish ambitions are minimized and our life in Christ is amplified.

While this is a simple objective to grasp, it is far from easy to implement. It takes people with the same philosophical heartbeat and missional dedication to move a school in this direction each day. Many of you have supported our teachers during the month of May as we celebrate their service, and I thank you for that. Teachers will spend about 1200 hours a year with our dearest possession – our children. Many people call teaching the most noble profession. As I reflect on our school and our teachers, I think it’s no coincidence that those who make our school great are those emulating Christ in their profession as a teacher just as Christ was a rabbi or teacher. Make no mistake, someone will disciple your child, and I’m thankful that we get to do that in a way that honors the Lord, and I’m thankful for all of those who teach! Generationally focused, Jason Nave Head of School

“Providing quality Christian education impacting lives for now and eternity.”

It’s hard to believe the school year will be over in just a couple of weeks! At this time, I’d like to thank you for partnering with us and your continued support by helping make the school year flow smoothly. It’s a blessing to have such great parents to work along-side as we are bringing up the next generation of Christ followers.

Lastly, there are several events occurring as the year comes to an end. Listed below are those highlighted dates. 5/15 - No chapel for elementary students 5/17 - Kindergarten Graduation 5/20 - 1st grade bowling field trip and 2nd grade skating field trip 5/20 - 5th and 6th grade make-up field day 5/21 - 5th and 6th grade skating field trip and Elementary Awards Night 5/22 - 4th grade field trip to Main Event 5/23 - Last day of school and early dismissal at noon -- NO EXTENDED CARE I hope you have a great summer and enjoy a break from the rigorous school schedule.

Elementary It’s been a busy, but fun last few weeks of the school year. We had a great trip to Washington, D.C. with the 8th graders a few weeks back. It was an awesome opportunity to learn about our nation’s rich history and how the government operates. This past Friday night our 6th annual Bronco Ball Tournament took place. We had over 20 teams from across 6th through 8th grades compete. Thank you all for coming out and making it another successful tournament. On May 4th, the 8th graders had their 2nd annual semi-formal in the Athletic Center. The students looked fantastic and had a wonderful time. Finally, this week our JH students will travel to Schlitterbahn for the annual end of the year field trip. Thank you to all of our teachers and volunteers that assist with making these events possible. In closing, don’t forget that we are operating on a half-day exam schedule the week of May 20th.

Junior High There is much to do this week before exams. Wednesday the 15th will be Senior Chapel. Senior parents are invited and chapel begins at 10:10. Seniors will have graduation practice Friday the 17th at 12:20, and all seniors must attend. Also on the 17th, juniors and seniors going to Costa Rica will dismiss at 2:30 to head to the airport. Saturday School for students who have missed over the allotted days will be the 18th from 8:00 to 3:00. Secondary Awards is the 23rd at 6:30 p.m., and Graduation is the 24th at 7:30 p.m.! Regarding exams - Students should take exams at the scheduled time unless they are exempt, they have a study hall, or an aide position. Teachers will let students know if they are exempt based on grade book non-rounded quarter averages, not rounded report card averages. Students must have an A average for the semester, not have more than seven absences in that particular class, and no suspensions for the year. Students going to Costa Rica will take their exams early with me on Thursday and Friday. All other exams should be taken as scheduled unless special permission is given by the principal. Students should not schedule trips during exam week. We are praying for a good ending, and that students will apply themselves just as earnestly as they did first quarter. Summer reading lists are posted on the website, so don't forget to read your book over the summer. I pray God's richest blessings on our seniors as they move forward from here, and a safe and restful summer for our returning students. I hope to see you at Awards Night or Graduation!

Fine Arts Night & Spring Banquet Our Fine Arts Department has had an outstanding year!! The Fine Arts night on April 30th highlighted the work that our music and art students have done throughout the year. Additionally, students in Band, Choir, Orchestra and Art participated and placed individually in regional or state level festival competitions this year. We also had multiple groups participate in group competitions, where they earned Superior and Excellent ratings from the judges. The Fine Arts department ended the year with an educational trip to Atlanta, Georgia as a celebration for all of their hard work this year. As we bring this year to a close and look ahead to the 2019-2020 school year, we hope that you will continue to participate in the Fine Arts programs that BACS has to offer!

Meet the Farland Family 1. Please share a little bit about your family. Mom is the elementary and 8th grade Spanish teacher and Assistant High School Swim Coach at BACS. Dad is finishing his master’s degree in Maritime Business and Administration. We have five kids, Richard (9th), Robert (7th), Raymond (6th), Joan (3rd), and Thomas (1st ) and this is our second year at BACS. Richard plays the violin in orchestra, plays golf, and serves on student council. Robert also is in orchestra, plays viola, serves on student council, and played football and ran track this year, as well as swimming in the summer. Raymond plays violin in the orchestra, as well as plays piano, and plays baseball. Joan is our soccer player. And Thomas plays piano and is starting to play basketball.

2. Summer is right around the corner! What plans does your family have? This summer dad will be on a ship for two months, so the rest of us will spend time with Grandma and Grandpa in California. The four younger kids have sports activities or VBS they will be doing, while Richard works on dual credit classes.

3. Tell us about your experiences worldwide. In our 16 years of marriage, we have moved 15 times, several of those were international moves as we worked for Wycliffe Bible Translators and the International Mission Board. Richard was born in Indonesia while Joan and Thomas were born in Turkey. The three older boys are fluent in Turkish. We still have all of them watch a movie in Turkish every weekend to keep up with it. They also speak with Turkish friends online. One of the best things about living in Turkey was traveling along Paul’s missionary journeys so that we could all see the Bible come to life. We lived down the road from Tarsus for five years.

4. How do you balance full time jobs and five busy kids? It is very busy at times and we have to say no to many things, but we always prioritize so that we can eat dinner as a family and have Bible and prayer time every night. Anything else is negotiable.

5. What is a favorite family meal? There are many likes and dislikes among all seven of us, but we all love steak! Dad does a great job grilling it for us!
