THE SOCIAL HERD A MESSAGE FROM

Dr. J

HEAD OF SCHOOL Dear BACS Families, Bay Area Christian School is beginning our 47th year of providing quality Christian education and impacting lives for now and eternity. With 900 students on campus daily, we believe that our school is instrumental in impacting the 4B Area (Beltway to the Beach and Brazoria County to the Bay) and beyond by educating the hearts and minds of the next generation. Partnering with parents in an “as you walk by the way” role as outlined in Deuteronomy 6:7 (ESV) inspires our work as a calling rather than an obligation. My hope is that all of our Broncos feel a part of a larger community as we seek to grow in our relationship with Christ so it may be true of the coming generations “that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments” (Psalm 78:6, ESV).

We welcome your support in many ways: prayer, positive recommendation, your physical presence, and funding. Please remember as you come on campus to pursue all safety measures with diligence: stay off of phones when driving on our campus, drive slowly and alertly, follow traffic patterns, walk in the crosswalks, and be courteous to our neighbors in the adjacent subdivision as exiting towards Friendswood. May God go before us all as we begin the 2019-20 school year!

It’s a great day to be a Bronco! Dr. Jason Nave Head of School

NEWS FROM OUR Leaders Matt Garner

ELEMENTARY Welcome back! Last week was a great first week in the elementary! I’ve enjoyed seeing all the familiar faces again and the new students! I hope and pray everyone is transitioning back to school easily. I also want to thank the BACS parents for your help in making the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up lines run smoothly. Even though the car lines have been moving pretty fast, I just wanted to remind you that typically by the second week the traffic flow will move even faster as everyone gets used to the process. Hang in there!  Please be aware, the elementary chapel schedule will remain the same as last school year (K- 3rd: 9:00-9:30, 4th-6th: 9:35-10:05). As always, parents are welcome to attend chapel. You may already know, but over the summer elementary personnel that was previously located in the main office (Mrs. Greagrey and myself) moved to the newly renovated elementary office spaces located upstairs by the 4th and 5th grade hallway. As before, you will find Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. Manigold in this area. Feel free to reach out to us if you need anything at all. The elementary department is here to serve you and your student. I’m looking forward to another God-moving school year here at Bay Area Christian School!

JUNIOR HIGH

Welcome back!  Our teachers and staff are excited to welcome 130 7th and 8th graders back to campus. We are looking forward to a great year. Remember that students are responsible for their own school supplies in Jr. High. The supply list can be found on the school website. Finally, please make sure to follow the traffic patterns and utilize the correct drop off zones. Secondary students can be dropped off in the high school or student center parking lots.

HIGH SCHOOL We are off to a great start!  We have a plan and are working the plan for a successful school year.  We are thankful for God's providence and provision, and how for forty-six years He has helped us keep our focus on our mission statement of providing quality, Christian education, impacting lives for now and eternity. Thank you to those who have read and are following the instruction for pick up and drop off.  It does get easier as parents and students learn the routine.  As you can see, arriving early for pick up is not always best.  We want to expedite, but be safe above all else.  Please train your child to look for you and to get in (or out) of the vehicle quickly, and pull to the far right before you stop so vehicles can get around you. A reminder that school attendance is compulsory and so very important.  Please check the school calendar before planning vacations and mission trips.  Take special note of exam weeks (Oct. 7, Dec. 16, March 2, and May 18) because it is not always easy to schedule pre-tests when exams are written to be taken in a 1.5 hour sitting.  Teachers appreciate you trying to work within the scheduled holidays, and we know it's for the student's benefit. Open House is Tuesday, Aug. 20th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Print your child's schedule, or pull it up on your phone, and come meet the teachers if you have not already done so. If our office can be of help, please contact us.  We want to communicate well, and we do that through RenWeb (FACTS). If you are new to BACS, or something doesn't make sense, we want to help. Nancy Gadd deals with schedules and student counseling, Becky den Herder deals with attendance and scheduling detentions, and my assistant, Amy Lopez, can help as well.  Our emails are our [email protected].

FINE ARTS A

Note

FROM MRS. MORRISON

The Fine Arts department at Bay Area Christian School exists to bring glory and honor to God through the gift of creative expression. Genesis 1:1 states that “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” We strive to equip our students for excellence in their creative pursuits so that the beauty and nature of God will be glorified through the creative process. BACS currently offers students the opportunity to take Art, Band, Choir, Orchestra and Theatre. We also have two after school music programs available to students in grades 1st-6th. We are starting a new program for students in grades 1st-3rd called Grace Notes. The main focus of this program will be to help students express their musical creativity by building a variety of skills, talents, and abilities. We also offer Elev8 to students in grades 4th-6th. The main focus of this program will be to help students elevate their awareness of Christ’s presence in their lives and translate that knowledge into their worship leadership. We have also added 3 new dynamic team members to our Fine Arts Department. Jaime Slafka will be teaching K-4th music, Jennifer Sanford will teach 5th-12th Orchestra and High School Theatre, and Randy Brennen will serve as our Assistant Band Director. We look forward to encouraging students to skillfully use their gifts and creative abilities for Kingdom purposes!

EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY Stay tuned for announcements next month!

CURRICULUM Welcome Back, Broncos! As you arrive on campus, you will notice many wonderful upgrades and improvements! While not so obviously visible, changes in the area of Curriculum & Instruction promise a positive, lasting effect on the culture and legacy of Bay Area Church and Christian School. New key curriculum material adoptions and improvements include new Bible materials for K-5th grades, new English materials for 7th-12th grades, upgrades in Math for 6th-8th grades, and targeted refinements in high school science. The biggest change in the area of Curriculum & Instruction was the implementation of a curriculum mapping tool called Curriculum Trak. This tool supports our key goal of leaving a legacy by promoting teacher clarity and curriculum articulation. This involves the what, why, and how of learning. Over the next couple years, Curriculum Trak will help our school produce a guaranteed and viable curriculum. Positive results are evident already. This tool also enables our teachers to plan and collaborate with each other and with other Kingdom educators globally.

MEETBax THE BRONCO our BACS mascot

Howdy! I'm Bax! You might have seen me around campus. Hanging out with our amazing BACS students makes me a better equine. I took over this position from our former mascot, Pete the burro, many years ago. He's enjoying his retirement and we still enjoy a bale of hay together from time to time and reminisce. Get ready for an unbelievable 2019-2020 school year! It's always a great day to be a Bronco!
