upcoming events February 15 Teacher Workday

February 21 Talent Show

Dear BACS Families, We are halfway through the third quarter of the 2018-19 school year, which seems unfathomable. Nonetheless, we are embarking on some pivotal junctures in our school year – primarily priority re-enrollment. Many of you have already accepted our “Continuous Enrollment” agreement, which will automatically re-enroll you each February in subsequent years. As BACS has had over a 90% re-enrollment rate for the past five years, we feel this is a best practice that will make re-enrollment an easier process for the vast majority. If you’ve not accepted the agreement, I encourage you to do so this weekend.

March 11-15 Spring Break

“We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

Remember to please mark your calendars for two important dates. February 15th is our Regional Convention and is a teacher workday. There is no school for K-12 that day. Also, February 21st is our Talent Show, so please mark your calendars and join us for an entertaining night! Also, winter sports are finishing up and spring sports are beginning. I want to congratulate all of our teams and give kudos to the great expansion and competitive spirit of our Athletics Department. I am impressed to see how many of our students have opportunities to compete in areas of their passions, both in athletics and the arts. Lastly, thank you for blessing our school with your continued partnership. As we expressed in the recent State of the School Address at the end of January, our students are achieving greatly. Not only are they continually setting the standard higher and higher, they are learning eternal truths and embracing practices that will help sustain a biblical worldview throughout their lives. I’m proud of our students and their accomplishments, and I’m sure proud to be a part of this exemplary school. It’s a great day to be a Bronco! Jason Nave Head of School

“Providing quality Christian education impacting lives for now and eternity.”

Last month was an eventful time for BACS elementary students. One highlight was celebrating the 100th day of school. Mrs. Jones’ classroom was filled with 100 balloons and the students worked together to pop all 100 balloons. It was a fun and exciting day!

This month we have a few upcoming events I’d like to inform you about. On Thursday, February 14th all elementary classes will have Valentine’s Day parties during the last hour of the day. If you have not already, you will soon be receiving specific details pertaining to your student’s party. Friday, February 15th will be a student holiday. Also, February 22nd will be Go Texan Day. Students may wear their favorite western style shirt and jeans. Western style dresses are fine for girls. If a student chooses not to dress in western attire, jeans will be acceptable with a uniform or school spirit shirt. Lastly, we have confirmed the Field Day dates and I’d like to share those with you as I know many parents like to attend this school event. Please see those dates listed below. The timeframe for each field day will be 9:00 am - 11:15 am. 3rd and 4th Grade: April 12 Kindergarten: April 26 1st and 2nd Grade: May 3 5th and 6th Grade: May 10

Elementary We are over halfway through the 3rd quarter as Progress Reports went out earlier this week. Please make sure that your student is staying current on assignments so that they don’t fall too far behind. Remember that students are eligible to exempt final exams in May so long as they meet the academic, disciplinary, and attendance requirements. Keep our 8th grade students and chaperones in your prayers as they travel this week to visit Dallas Baptist, TCU, and Baylor. They will also be spending the night at Great Wolf Lodge. This will be a great experience for them!

Les Rainey—Principal

Junior High I recently attended a College Counselor's Round Table where I learned that Colleges and Universities are reporting concerning trends among incoming freshmen. These were the three mentioned: 1) Lack of integrity - students' comfort level with plagiarizing and cheating is alarming. 2) Lack of resiliency - they look for the shortcut, have no grit, and cannot work for the long haul. 3) Lack of seeking relationships of value - they condone irresponsible behavior and promote the hook-up culture. Franklin Graham once stated that aside from the home, Christian education is the last wall protecting our children. HS teachers are working to partner with you to help students learn to do more for themselves, develop personal responsibility, integrity, and hang in there when they butt a wall and things get difficult - whether an assignment or a relationship. Universities are telling us they are looking for young adults who can handle things on their own - whether that is dealing with consequences of something forgotten, communicating with an adult on their own, sticking with something until they can figure out a solution, or facing maturely the consequences of a discipline. These are lessons that are better learned now in an atmosphere where they are loved and cared for (home and school), and not away at college. We love our students, and want to graduate well-rounded Christ-followers who can, with the Lord's help, face the world and not fold under pressure.

News from our Leaders

Another significant day was last Friday when Mr. Hallisey, the Mayor of League City visited our campus and was the special guest speaker for Mrs. Jermstad’s 2nd grade class. He talked to the students about being a strong and courteous leader. Lastly, our Bronco Bots Robotics Teams competed on January 19th and both teams placed in the top 10 teams for the Robot Games. In fact, the Bronco Bots Red Team (4th & 5th graders) earned a 3rd place trophy in Robot Design and was selected as one of the top 9 teams to compete in the championship scheduled for March 2nd. Way to go, Bronco Bots!

We are continuing to accept applications from NEW FAMILIES for the 2019-20 school year. These applications will be reviewed during the month of March in the order they are received. PRIORITY RE-ENROLLMENT for our CURRENT FAMILIES is going on now through the month of February. Summer Camp Registration opens March 18th. Camps are open to the public, children do not have to be enrolled in ELA to participate. Children that have finished kindergarten can enroll in summer camps.

Linda Mudgett—Curriculum Director

Curriculum There are many ways to support the learning of your students. For the younger kiddos, according to Alicia Bayer, a blogger and contributor to the left-leaning HuffPost, the single biggest predictor of high academic achievement is reading to children. Not flash cards, not workbooks, not fancy preschools, not blinking toys or computers, but mom or dad taking the time every day or night (or both!) to sit and read them wonderful books. A tangible tool is Teacher Tools Online by Bob Jones University Press. This resource will support what your student is doing in the classroom. With this resource, you have access to chapter weblinks, curriculum maps, etc. This is available by going to teachertoolsonline.com and clicking on the Resources/Grade Level/Subject tabs. Ensure you have the right edition, and additional resources are listed on the right. Also, there are a couple of free tools to help with math: afterschoolhelp.com or xtramath.org. If you need anything, please do not hesitate to email or call me.

Meet the Chapman Family Please tell us a little bit about your family. Archie and I have been married for almost eight years. We are a beautifully blended family blessed by God. We strive to spend as much time together as possible. We are at our strongest when we are one. What brought you to BACS? Our family transitioned from Westminster Christian Academy to Bay Area Christian in 2013. Archie and I had a desire to ensure our children received a top notch education, but more importantly, our core family values centered around God were upheld. Last year, we moved away for my job, but quickly realized we were not meant to be anywhere else. We are blessed to have Briana in fifth grade and Olivia in the 3-year old class of the ELA. Tell us about your best family vacation. We love to camp and spend time together as a family. While Disney World was fun, we love to pack up the RV and explore! What type of activities keep Briana busy? Briana is involved in competitive gymnastics on the Xcel team at Pearland Elite. We love to support her as a family at her competitions, and she loves coach Olivia who is also active in gymnastics Describe a favorite family meal. I would love to say that we get creative, but we don’t. Briana is a super picky eater, but a good chicken meal is always safe. Regardless of what we are eating, one tradition we always do is ask each other what the happiest part of our day is and the saddest. It’s a great way to ‘check in’ with each other and encourage fellowship.

Announcements Action Required! Have you completed your Continuous Enrollment Agreement yet? An email was sent on 2/1. If you are not returning please send an email to [email protected].

One of these options must be completed by February 28.
