upcoming events March 11-15 Spring Break

Dear BACS Families, We just completed our priority re-enrollment period for current BACS students during the month of February. For the past five years, BACS has experienced a re-enrollment rate of 90% or better, which is outstanding. This year, however, our re-enrollment rate was 94%! We are grateful to God for this blessing, and we thank you for your confidence in partnering with us in the educational pursuits of your child(ren).

Planning ahead for 2019-20, we are currently working on several important items for next year. Our school calendar is almost complete, and we are also chipping away at coordinating our school schedule for classes and courses. It should be a tremendous year filled with incredible opportunities for our students to grow academically, socially, and spiritually! Recently, I sat down with an alumnus from the class of 2008, who is being recognized in the area as one of the top young professionals in his industry, to talk about our school and his experience. He mentioned that he still leans on much of what he learned in our school: honoring the Lord, not cutting corners, diligent study habits, how to treat and interact with people, and fundamental concepts. Further conversation revealed that he is not only serving his community in several capacities, but he is being elevated to leadership positions in the organizations in which he serves. When I reflect on the conversation I had with him, I cannot help but recount the conversations I’ve had with our juniors and seniors with whom I eat lunch every Thursday. God has gifted our students abundantly, and they’ve got all the right stuff to make such a difference in our world! What an honor it is to see them everyday and partner with diligent, conscientious, and purposeful parents in this endeavor! Psalm 1:3 states that he who delights himself in the law of the Lord is like “a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” Remember, that what you are providing your children in a Kingdom Education sets them apart academically, but it also has an eternal impact spiritually. Enjoy Spring Break, and may you and yours have a peaceful retreat. It’s a great day to be a Bronco! Jason Nave Head of School

Junior Jr/Sr Prom tickets are now on sale in the HS office. This year's theme is "Midnight in Paris" and the prom committee is on the ball making plans. We hope all juniors and seniors come! It should be a fun night at the Nassau Bay Hilton. Next month (April 16th and 18th) is Terra Nova testing for secondary. Seniors will receive a letter soon to detail their privileges for those days. I hope students enjoy their time off, and that this will be a time for those who are ill or injured to recover, and that time spent with family is sweet.

Don’t let the weather dampen your spirits as the Broncos continue to press toward the mark of a higher calling. Our winter sports have culminated with another year of successful seasons, and we want to celebrate their accomplishments and get excited about our spring sports teams.

Girls Soccer: The Lady Broncos, led by coach Harmony Pratt, fought hard this year. The Lady Bronco Soccer team showed heart and resilience. Congratulations on a great season! Boys Soccer: The Bronco soccer team had another outstanding year and contended for a playoff spot. They were defeated by New Braunfels in the second round of the playoffs after a hard fought battle. Thanks to the boys for their hard work and to Coach Atwell for his leadership. Girls Basketball: The Lady Bronco Basketball team, led by coach Cheri Montgomery, had an outstanding season! They came out as the district champions, but fell in the first round of the playoffs to Waco Reicher. Great job, Lady Broncos! Boys Basketball: The Broncos battled in a tough district and ended up finishing in third place. Thank you to Coach Sharer and Coach Saubert for another successful season. Softball: The Lady Bronco Softball team is off and running. The team is finally all together after the winter sports season. The girls won their first game against Galveston O’Connell 15-3. The district season will begin on March 19th against Logos Prep Academy, so get out to a game to watch your Lady Broncos. Baseball: The Baseball teams are off and running while playing through a tough schedule. The varsity boys are currently 7-3-1 on the year and will be hosting their first ever tournament March 15th/16th at BACS. Track: The track team is working hard at being a fleet of feet at both the JH and HS levels. The JH teams are working to distance themselves from the pack. It’s exciting to see so many athletes competing in track and field at the JH level. Our high school team had a strong showing at the St. Johns School meet and are preparing themselves for strong district competition. Tennis: The Bronco tennis team is working hard and playing through a tough district schedule. The Broncos have a full squad of both boys and girls and are led by Coach Beth Skeeter. Golf: The Bronco golf team is in full swing and has already competed in a tournament at Katy Faith West. Coach Don Hamilton is looking forward to a repeat State appearance. Be on the look out for summer athletic camp dates and times. As you can see, the spring is a busy time full of opportunities to enjoy the sunshine and root for the Broncos!

Meet the Hartgerink Family

Tell us a little bit about your family (occupations, grade levels, extracurriculars, etc.) My husband and I are both electrical engineers and met as soon as we graduated from college. We got married 25 years ago and have only one son, Alex (8th grade). I was born in Peru, my husband was born in California, we have many things in common but the most important thing is that we both come from devoted Christian families who taught us to love God and to respect and love others. Our son is in track and field this year and loves the school. We love the fact that the kids are learning to be close to God while also learning the skills needed for college.

What is your favorite way to get involved at BACS? I loved to volunteer when Alex was in elementary school for the different activities/parties. Now I like helping when I can, for instance gathering toys for Christmas. I love seeing kid’s faces when they open presents.

What are your plans for Spring Break?

Our plan for Spring Break is to stay home and play together. I love Legos and so does Alex, so we will probably assemble something cool and probably play with the Nintendo switch. My husband will probably play Minecraft and Space Engineers (PC games) with Alex. We will most likely go to Kemah, play board games and go for at least one small hike at Armand Bayou.

What is a family dream that you would like to accomplish one day? Someday we want to take Alex to Europe and also to Peru. I will like him to see all the things I have seen and experience them again through his eyes.

What has been your favorite memory at BACS? My favorite memory at BACS is when the kids participated in the holiday’s festivities, especially Grandparent’s Day. When Alex was in kindergarten, we invited the whole family to listen to the song “Albuquerque is a Turkey “. Everybody still remembers!

What is a favorite family meal? Our favorite meal is a tie between spaghetti and steak and potatoes.
