Dear BACS Families, Thank you for a tremendous start to our school year! It has been such a blessing to see our campus come to life with the smiles of our students and the presence of our families. Each day on campus is a gift as we have the privilege of providing a Kingdom Education for nearly 1,000 students pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade! Speaking of students on campus, our K-12 has 775 students with a record 204 students in our high school – praise God! Another 152 students are enrolled in our Early Learning Academy. God has truly continued to bless our school as we are partnering with close to 600 families in our area. A pivotal passage of Scripture which drives our spiritual and educational philosophy is Psalm 78:1-8, which expresses the importance of family legacy centered around the goodness, power, and commandments of God. I love this passage because of the generational focus. Recently, I’ve facilitated meetings with some of our longest standing families who have children enrolled at BACS to discuss the reasons they started and stayed here. One of the questions is, “What do

you hope to say about BACS in 20 years?” The response that has blessed me the most is, “To say that our children and grandchildren graduated from this school.” While God has blessed us with a strong enrollment, of which I’m grateful, the thing that matters most is not a number. Our goal is to provide quality Christian education impacting lives for now and eternity. I love the fact that our faculty and staff provide a solid educational experience for our students, and there is no doubt that our students are prepared for secular success (this year’s graduating class already averages a 1230 on the SAT). However, if we are impacting the eternal trajectory of our students, imagine how that impact will affect those in their sphere of influence! “…that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” – Col. 2:2 ESV Generationally focused, Jason Nave Head of School

It’s a great day to be a Bronco.

Elementary I hope your 2018-2019 school year has gotten off to a smooth start. Here a few reminders as we reach the halfway point of the first quarter. Progress reports will be emailed out in the next few days. Please be on the lookout for these. Quarter exams will take place the week of October 8th. There is no school on Friday, October 12th. It's important that all 7th and 8th grade students are picked up from school by 3:30. If they are going to be picked up later than 3:30, the students must report to the atrium for extended study. No JH student should be hanging out around campus after 3:30. Thank you for trusting us with your student’s education

Junior High The first four weeks are in the books, and progress reports will be emailed this Tuesday after lunch! This is the time to assess study habits, how homework is done, quality time put in, class participation, asking questions, behavior, etc. Adjustments can be made in time to be successful at the end of the quarter. It's good to be stretched, worked, and trained, for then we grow. We want our students to tackle the hard things and learn to persevere through adversity. They can do it, and come out better adults for it! Teachers are working hard and teaching well - I believe our days are very profitable. We've celebrated with our first pep rally, seen our cheerleaders and band perform, watched our athletes compete, passed many tests, and grown in our faith already these few weeks. Upcoming on the 26th is See You At The Pole, the 27th is the homecoming pep rally, and the 28th is our special homecoming half time. You are invited to attend some of these events with your teens. It's always nice to see supportive faces, and know we are on the same team with the same goals!

News from our Leaders

What a tremendous start to the school year here at Bay Area Christian School Elementary. This is the first year that we added sports to the 6th grade classes and they are competing at a high level. The football team is undefeated right now with a record of 2-0 with a big win over First Baptist Christian Academy last week. In addition, the volleyball team won handily over Trafton Academy as well. Our students have settled into our new curriculum that we incorporated this year in grades K-6. The new curriculum is challenging our students and allowing them to use critical thinking skills that will enhance their ability to achieve academic success. The 5thand 6th grade students will also be attending the high school football pep rallies this year for the first time, which is developing an exciting atmosphere around campus creating school unity and pride. Progress reports will go out on Tuesday, September 11th. This is only for 2nd-6th grade. Remember, my door is always open and I am here if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Declarations of Praise are interwoven throughout all of scripture. One example is found in 2nd Corinthians 5:17, which states, “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” When we make a declaration of praise, we are affirming that we agree with biblical truth. We also reveal a posture of humility before our sovereign Creator and King, and experience joy while waiting for the fulfillment of His future promises. There are many beautiful things about practicing the arts in a Christian school. Fine Arts teachers have the privilege of declaring praise and creating new, beautiful things every day in their classrooms. Art pieces that have not existed previously overflow from the paintbrushes and pens of eager students. Pieces of music repertoire are selected, practiced, and brought to life through the collaborative efforts of the individuals that are present in their Band, Orchestra, or Choir class on any given day. Children created in the image of a Holy God joyfully reveal the truth of God while allowing their voices to resound as one in Chapel. Praise is a gift, and I am looking forward to the many new creations that will emerge from our Fine Arts classes this year!

Leffler “God always put the right person in our path…” Please tell us a little bit about your family. My husband, Damian, is a retired Phoenix Police Officer and currently works as Operations Coordinator at Hobby Airport. I’m at home still working on getting our home rebuilt. We have a daughter, Elliott, who is in 8th grade. She enjoys drawing and painting along with taking care of animals, especially cats. Our son, Dallas, is in 6th grade. He is on the robotics team and plays the trombone in the band. What brought you to BACS? After my husband retired from Phoenix PD, we wanted to move closer to family so we started looking for jobs in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. We applied for numerous jobs in the Dallas area when I found the one job here in Houston. I guess the Lord really wanted us here because it was the only job offer my husband received. We toured Christian schools in the area, but I was really excited about BACS. We were placed on a waiting list and thankfully we made it!!

We know you were affected by Hurricane Harvey. How do you think God used it to shape your life? Both my husband and I have law enforcement backgrounds. With the shift work and call out schedules it can lead to a very isolating lifestyle. We never liked asking for help and were never comfortable receiving help. After we were rescued from our home and taken to a shelter, I remember looking at my husband and telling him we had to put pride aside and accept whatever help we could get. I had no idea just how much help we would need and how much we would receive. We were blown away by the outpouring of support and generosity of others, from strangers dropping off gift cards or food to new friends, who have supported us the whole way through this journey. God always put the right person in our path just when we needed them. The whole experience has definitely taught us what it means to serve others and deepened our trust in the Lord

What is an activity you enjoy doing as a family? We enjoy watching movies at the theater and at home as a family, especially Marvel Cinematic Universe movies!! We also enjoy card and board games. What has been your most memorable family vacation? The consensus is our stay-cation we had the last summer we lived in Arizona. We stayed at a resort in Tucson with beautiful mountain views and a huge pool. We visited the wildlife museum and the University of Arizona Steward Observatory along with taking morning hikes. (Although my daughter said the hikes were the worst part of the trip)

Describe your family’s favorite meal. We can never agree on a meal as a family, so I would say leftover night is the favorite. We warm up everything in the fridge and everybody grabs their favorite.
