THE SOCIAL HERD A MESSAGE FROM

Dr. J

HEAD OF SCHOOL Dear BACS Families, The beginning of the school year has been tremendously smooth; thank you for a great start!  It is a gift to be able to partner with families in the Kingdom Education of 900 students on our campus.  Luke 2:52 tells us that Jesus grew in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man. It is our desire that as our students mature, whether it be over a semester, year, or throughout all of their schooling, that they are perpetually increasing in their cognitive capacities, physiological and kinesthetic capabilities, spiritual disciplines and relationships, and love for their neighbor.  What a high calling and a privileged task towards which to set our focus!

This year, we celebrate a record enrollment in high school with 208 current students.  Additionally, we have 131 students in junior high, 405 students in elementary, and 153 students in the Early Learning Academy.  God has blessed BACS with the largest enrollment of any area pre-k through 12th grade Christian school.   We are thankful for this blessing, the confidence placed in us by so many, and the potential impact we can have on the next generation! Generationally focused, Jason Nave Head of School

NEWS FROM OUR Leaders Matt Garner

ELEMENTARY We are already half way through the first quarter of the school year. This means progress reports will be emailed to 2nd - 6th grade parents on Tuesday, September 10th. As announced previously, kindergarten through 12th grade will be attending all pep rallies. Everyone attended the first one a couple of weeks ago and the elementary students really enjoyed it! The elementary fans helped create an exciting atmosphere and were great participants cheering on our Bronco football players before their first home game. Please be mindful the remaining pep rallies will be held on 9/13, 10/18, and 11/1. Early dismissals will not be permitted on these Fridays after 2:05 pm. We appreciate your help with this. Not only will our students be attending the pep rally this Friday, but it will also be 2nd and 3rd grade night for our elementary students. They will receive a free entrance ticket to the game and are invited to run through the tunnel before the game. Thank you for entrusting your student with us and allowing us to academically and spiritually affect their lives. It’s truly a blessing to partner with you in this way. Please feel free to reach out to me if you ever have any questions or concerns. God bless.

Les Rainey

JUNIOR HIGH

Thank you for your help in getting this school year off to a great start!  Be on the lookout for progress reports as they will be emailed on Tuesday, September 10th.  Please continue to monitor RenWeb for assignments and to also stay current on your student’s progress.  Don’t forget that there is no school on Friday, October 11th, as this day marks the end of the quarter and is also a teacher workday.  If you get a chance, try to come out and support our various teams and fine arts groups as their competitions begin to ramp up in the month of September.  Thank you for your continued support!

Melissa Fuqua

HIGH SCHOOL Progress Reports will be emailed after lunch on Tuesday, September 10th.  This is a time to assess study habits, check how thoroughly homework is done, class participation, asking questions, focus, etc. Adjustments can be made in time to show improvement by the end of the quarter. It's okay that all students are not "A" students as long as they are learning, growing, and working to their potential.  High school is also the time when some "A" students are challenged with more difficult material which helps them stretch and rise to a higher level of difficulty they may not have encountered yet. It is good for students to be challenged and learn to problem solve and persevere through difficult content.  Better to learn these skills now under the guidance and support of caring parents and teachers, than later. I want our students to do well, but I truly want them to be ready to face the world when things get difficult with the confidence that they can make it through hard things.  I want this because I love and care about our students even after they cross our stage and leave our campus. Thank goodness school is comprised of more than academics!  Students have had a fun pep rally, scores of athletic events, played instruments, marched, sang, cheered, and shared fun laughter in the hallways. Teachers are teaching with their whole heart. BACS is a good place! God is good, and I'm so thankful He gives us joy, love, and peace as we seek to follow in His steps.

FINE ARTS A

Note

FROM MRS. MORRISON

The Fine Arts department at BACS has a wonderfully unique opportunity to nurture, cultivate, and create artists who genuinely understand the purpose behind the creation of art: to bring glory and honor to the Creator, and to enjoy and experience His world through artistic expressions of beauty. As a department, our goals are to: Equip students to become lifelong worshippers of the one, true God. Effectively present practical, theoretical, and historical aspects of education as it relates to the teacher’s field of expertise. Explore a variety of different styles and genres as related to the teacher’s field of expertise.  When secular styles and genres are considered for use in the classroom, those styles will be filtered through a biblical worldview, seeking to fulfill the biblical mandate to think on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. (Phil. 4:8) Encourage students to skillfully use their gifts and creative abilities for kingdom purposes. Enhance the educational experience by offering opportunities for students to perform in a variety of appropriate settings. As we begin this year, we are working to lay solid foundations that will be built upon in the coming months.  In additon to the instruction that goes on during the school day, we are also working diligently after school to provide stronger, better experiences for our students.  Marching Band has gotten off to an amazing start by adding energy and life to our pep rallies and football games. In addition to Elev8, our worship development program for students in grades 4-6, we have expanded our after school programming to include a music development program for students in grades 1-3 called “Grace Notes”, which is being taught by Mrs. Jennifer Sanford, our new Orchestra and Theatre teacher.  After school art with Mrs. Maly will also begin this week, and we have more students enrolled in these programs than ever before! We are looking forward to watching our talented Broncos continue to grow and develop their artistic abilities!

EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY Please be mindful of the wide range of program hours and approach the ELA parking lot with extreme caution. Parents are often juggling strollers, toddlers, and Pre-K students as they walk to and from our building. Thank you for keeping our youngest Bronco Colts safe!

CURRICULUM By now, consistent study routines and habits have hopefully been established at home to support student success. If you are looking for extra resources or reinforcement for your students at home, there are many supplemental materials we can recommend. For any course that uses Bob Jones University Press (BJU Press) materials, there are online resources that parents and students can access at the Teacher Tools Online website at https://www.teachertoolsonline.com/teachers-home/. At the home website page, click the Resources tab, then choose a grade level and subject, edition, and additional resources. You will only be able to open what is available for parents and students. For elementary, tools for math review are afterschoolhelp.com or xtramath.org.  Some teachers also use different resources that augment study experiences. Additionally, we added online support for 6th-8th grade math this year. Your student’s teacher should already have given them the information. Of course, most of our high school classes also have online support for students. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help.

MEET THE y e l d a r B family 1. Tell us about your family. Our family is full of love, laughter, sports and busy schedules, to name a few.  There is never a dull moment in the Bradley house.  We're always on the go, running around from work or school to practice and games.  There may be a lot of brotherly arguments going on daily but we can balance it out nicely with the fun we all have when we're together.   In addition to the five of us, we have a sweet pup named Dez, a borderline psychotic cat named Spike, Dinger the turtle (yes, he's named after George Springer) and a fish named Ally.  There are lots of mouths to feed here but we wouldn't have it any other way.

2. You and Jaime both have a medical background. Where has your medical career taken you?

My career has given me opportunities to work with all ages and stages of athletes' careers.  I've been in training rooms, sidelines, courts, arenas, etc. with JH, HS, collegiate, professional and Olympic athletes.  Jaime is an ER nurse in a trauma center downtown.  Her career allows her to do what she loves while having a schedule that is flexible enough to keep things running at home. The best of both worlds.

3. What's the favorite family game? Who's the most competitive?

Our boys Beau, age 9 and twins Jake and Drew, age 7, are all very competitive. They come by it honestly as both of us were collegiate athletes and compete with one another all the time.  For example, our dates when we were younger consisted of going to the basketball or tennis courts and our honeymoon was spent playing ping pong in Jamaica.  We love playing all kind of games as a family, even if it's just a little game of catch in the backyard.  "Tickle Monster" is still a family favorite game!

4. Describe a typical day in the Bradley family.

There is a lot happening in the Bradley household on a daily basis. Up bright and early for work and school, rush home to get homework done and eat on the go while we head to baseball practice or games for one of the kids. Most of our family time is spent at the ball park or gym.  I have been lucky enough to help coach a lot of their sports, so that has been fun for all of us.  If we're lucky, we'll have one day a week where all of us are home at the same time so we can enjoy a dinner together,  play some Super Mario brothers, watch TV or read and enjoy a good snuggle.  We try to enjoy all the snuggles we can get right now as those moments won't last forever.

5. How does your family unwind?

I feel like we don't get many opportunities to truly unwind.  We're usually going 100 mph to a sudden stop at bedtime.  When we can unwind, it's usually to an Astros game in the background or a little iPad time with some more snuggling tucked in there until it's time to shut down for the night.  And although our lives are insanely busy right now, we try to remind ourselves how short this time together really is. Sometimes we get overwhelmed with everything we have going on,  but we really couldn't be happier with our lives.  We are truly blessed more than we deserve.
