have gone before us in our lifetime: We remember you. We lift up the memories of brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, partners and significant loves, children and friends, whose lives ended too soon: We remember you. We lift up to you, O God, the names of those we have lost in this past year from our lives, knowing that they are with you forever. As we read the names, we will pause after each name to remember, pray, and give thanks for their lives.

All Saints Day Moment of Remembrance All Saints Day is a universal Christian time of worship to honor and remember all Christian saints, known and unknown. The day is observed by remembering and thanking God for all saints. It is a day to glorify Jesus Christ, who by his holy life and death has made the saints holy through baptism and faith. All Saints Litany (responsive) Today, we remember the ancestors of our faith, from Abraham to Sarah, to Paul and Phoebe: We remember you. We remember those whose lives built the foundation for the First Baptist faith family: We remember you. We remember grandparents and parents, aunts and uncles, those who

Along with these names, there are others you have known outside of these walls. We invite you to ring a bell in their memory, and then, speak aloud their name. We remember you all and honor you. You will not be forgotten. We give thanks, O God, for all who have gone on to be with you beyond this life. We trust in the hope of resurrection and the promise of new life in Christ, and know that in our grief and celebration, You, O God, are with us. In the name of Christ, in whom love lives forever, we pray. Amen.

Anthem

Shine Like the Sun

arr. Black

There’s a light that lights the darkness, and the world cannot contain it and the world cannot explain it. It is the light of God’s creation. There’s a love that flows within us, and the world cannot create it, and the world cannot negate it. It is the love of God’s salvation; and it shines like the sun. There are saints who light the darkness, and the world cannot contain them, for the love of God sustains them and they will never be forgotten. We are blest to have them with us, and we praise the God who made them. There is no way to repay them, and so we simply do applaud them as they shine like the sun. Glory be to our Creator! Glory to the Holy One! Glory be to Christ our Savior, the Lord of light, the King of love. See him shine like the sun.

Scripture Readings

Hebrews 13:5-6 Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Prayer of Confession (unison)

Hymn of Commitment

The blessings of each day food to eat, clothes to wear, contentment with all we have whether rich or poor. This is life in your kingdom. How difficult, Lord to walk along this road, when the world tempts us with much that we desire, but do not need. Forgive our weakness, and teach us again to know the contentment of having enough, and sharing not only from our riches but also from our poverty. Amen. Holy Communion

Announcements Special Missions Offering for American Baptist Relief Work First Baptist Church is proud to partner with American Baptist Churches-USA to support missions work and relief efforts around the world. Throughout the first four weeks of November, our congregation will have the opportunity to support these efforts by giving financially to make sure that American Baptists can respond to needs as soon as they happen so that tens of thousands of people can receive support for ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and development. Contributions should be made out to First Baptist Church. Please be sure to put ABC Missions Offering in the memo line and/or place it in one of the special missions offering envelopes. This year, your donation will go even further as our Serving Team has established a matching fund for this offering for the first $1,000. That means every dollar donated for the first $1,000 has the opportunity to be doubled! This includes money donated specifically to work with Syrian refugees. We hope you will give generously to support the work of the American Baptist Church throughout the world.

Dolls for Nicaragua - Missions A doll making session is scheduled for today, following Traditional Service, in the second floor conference room. Light refreshments will be served.
