PRELUDE

O Christ, the Healer

INTROIT *CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:

arr. Dale Wood ERHALT UNS, HERR Isaiah 40 (selected verses)

O Israel, have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary. His understanding is unsearchable.

People:

He gives power to the faint and strengthens the powerless.

Leader:

Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted.

All:

But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not be faint. Jesus, Thy Boundless Love to Me

+*HYMN 366

ST. CATHERINE

*CALL TO CONFESSION *PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Leader:

God of Compassion, we turn toward You now and seek Your healing touch on our weary souls.

People:

Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your steadfast love.

Leader:

Where we have neglected prayer, been apathetic in worship, found reasons to avoid generosity, or lacked compassion:

People:

Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your steadfast love.

Leader:

Where we have colluded in the oppression of those who become invisible in their suffering, and ignored those who lack voice:

People:

Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your steadfast love.

Leader:

Where anxiety has eroded the gift of Your peace, and where we have cared too much about what others think:

People:

Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your steadfast love.

Leader:

Forgive our pride and our insecurities. Forgive our self-absorption and our self-destruction. Forgive our doubts and forgive our over confidence. Forgive our longing for attention and our desire to hide. Forgive each step we take away from You.

All:

Create in me a clean heart, O God. And renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence. Restore the joy of my salvation, and grant a willing spirit to sustain me. (Silent Prayers) Amen.

SELWYN AVENUE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH WARMLY WELCOMES ALL WHO VISIT Please take a moment to sign the registry of friendship as it is passed along your pew so that you may be greeted and greet others by name. If you are actively searching for a new church home, we invite you to fill out the card in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate, or bring it after worship to one of the ministers. Membership is by one of three paths: 1) profession of faith in Jesus Christ (for those who have never been part of a Christian church); 2) reaffirmation of faith (for those who formerly were part of a congregation but have not been involved in recent times - for example, you were baptized and/or confirmed but moved away for military service, education, or work, and never engaged with a new congregation); or 3) transfer of membership from another congregation (you have recently moved to this area and your membership is still elsewhere, or you simply seek to become part of Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church in your faith journey). New members and prospective members are invited to participate in Orientation Conversations, which are scheduled several times a year, and are a wonderful way to meet others and learn together about all the opportunities here. We always stand ready to be in communication with you about your particular situation. The contact information for all staff members is in the bulletin each week.
