Hi, My Name is

Carl Swanson I am running for the position of Village Trustee in the Village of Mount Morris. I am a life long resident of Mount Morris and a graduate of Mount Morris Central. I was a Kiwanis member for many years and served as a president. I am retired from NYSDOT. I have served on the Town of Mount Morris Planning Board. I believe that my experiences in government, as well as personal life, makes me a strong candidate. I think that Mount Morris is a great place to live, even though we are facing some big issues. I think the future holds possible chance for changes. I would very much like to be part of this. If elected I would do my best to make these things happen. In closing, I hope that I can count on your vote.

Livingston County Projects Awarded Over ¾ Million Dollars Restore NY Funding Restore NY funding was recently awarded to the Villages of Avon and Dansville for two projects that support municipal revitalization. The Village of Avon will receive $500,000 for the redevelopment of the Avon Inn. The Village of Dansville will receive $285,488 for the rehabilitation of the Battle Street Train Depot which will become Battle Street Brewing. Governor Cuomo enacted the Restore New York Communities Initiative in the FY16 State Budget and designated Empire State Development to implement the program. Round 4 launched in June 2016. Cities, towns and villages were all eligible to apply for support for projects that include demolition, deconstruction, rehabilitation, or reconstruction of vacant, abandoned, condemned and surplus properties. “We are honored and humbled to be given the opportunity to be stewards of the Avon Inn. We would like to thank all of the people who helped make this grant application possible. With the help of the Village of Avon and Livingston County, we were able to send in a comprehensive application to Empire State Development. We would be remiss if we did not also thank the residents of the Village of Avon for approving the grant request and all of the community members, senators, historians and officials who wrote letters on our behalf. Lastly, we would like to thank Linda Moran for this opportunity. We look forward to carrying on her traditions and vision for the Inn as well as bringing economic growth to the Village of Avon, Livingston County, and its local businesses”, stated Jim & Jen Krause, current owners of the Avon Inn.

For over 130 years the Avon Inn, comprised of a banquet center, tavern and 16 hotel rooms, was the center of hospitality in Avon. Extensive upgrades to the building are necessary to make it commercially viable again since its closing a year ago. This project will bring visitors to the village and has the potential to spur even more economic development as the Avon Inn is within walking distance of many other village businesses. In the Village of Dansville, Restore NY funding will be used to complete the renovation and restoration of the old train depot located on Battle Street. This renovation will bring the building out of a state of dilapidation and bring jobs and development to the village. The building will become home of the first brew-pub located in the Village of Dansville called Battle Street Brewing. Restore NY funding will be used for a new roof, historical registry requirements, window restoration, minor demolition and stabilization of the structure and utility upgrades to the structure. Doug Acomb, partner in Battle Street Brewing, said, “We are extremely humbled, thankful and appreciative of being awarded this grant. The funds are already earmarked towards a very large to do list in the restoration project at the depot; a special thank you to the Village of Dansville for their sponsorship and to Livingston County for assisting with the submission of the grant application”.

National Children’s Dental Health Month Tips to reduce your children’s risk of tooth decay: • Sugary foods and drinks should be consumed with meals. Saliva production increases during meals and helps neutralize acid production and rinse food particles from the mouth. • Limit between-meal snacks. If kids crave a snack, offer them nutritious foods. • If your kids chew gum, make it sugarless. Chewing sugarless gum after eating can increase saliva flow and help wash out food and decay-producing acid. • Monitor beverage consumption. Instead of soft drinks all day, children should also choose water and low-fat milk. • Help your children develop good brushing and flossing habits. • Schedule regular dental visits.
