Volume 3, Issue 4

Hello Mountain Lodge,

By now everyone should have received a letter from our new management company, Asset Property Management. As you are aware we have had many unresolved issues with RealManage and therefore decided to go a new direction with our property management company. Asset Property Management is a locally owned and operated company that has a strong history of providing excellent customer service to the properties that they manage. We already have a strong relationship with their management team and we are confident that this will continue for many years to come. All operational details are handled out of the San Antonio office including such issues as finances, gate operations, deed enforcements, homeowner questions/issues, etc. When you call Asset’s office you will actually talk to someone in San Antonio – imagine that! You can reach APM at: Asset Property Management, Inc. 8200 Perrin Beitel, Suite 128 San Antonio, Tx  78218 Tel.:  (210) 342-1181 Fax:  (210) 349-4477 We will be having our next Town Hall Meeting at 7:00 on April 11, 2011 at Canyon Springs Golf Club. Our new management company will be available to answer any questions you may have. We also have a full agenda and will touch on many hot topics around the neighborhood. We hope to see everyone on April 11th. Warm Regards, David Heidenrich, ML HOA President

mountain lodge This May Surprise You The changes to this year’s pool schedule might not be overly apparent from the information covered in the various articles we have published. The following should clarify that. For the 2011 pool season the pools will be open every day of the week – neither pool will be closed one whole day for cleaning like last year. The number of days the pools will be open has doubled and the total number of hours you have available to swim has more than tripled. Here is a side by side comparison with the 2010 swim season. OPEN....................2010 ..................2011 hours/day................10 ...................16(17 on Fri & Sat) days/year.................84 ...................169

mountain lodge By My Observations… March has always been one of my favorite months. Not only is it when spring starts and home to one of the equinoxes, but one of my favorite holidays is nestled right in the middle. No, not the Ides of March, which is tragically hip in its own right, but St. Patrick’s Day. Indeed, the day we wear green is near and dear to my non-Irish heart. Each St’ Patrick’s Day, I dutifully don the green and make shepherd’s pie. We listen to Gaelic music and dance non-traditional jigs. Now, my kids have picked up on the habit and they, too, enjoy March 17. My older boy had on a tie-dye shirt with a huge shamrock on it, and the little one had a tie-dye shirt with a green frog on it. And they like shepherd’s pie. But, there is more to the month than that. For example, there are many cool phrases about March, such as “March comes in like a lion and leaves like a lamb”. Or is it the other way around? I’ve never quite understood that saying, but I like it. Sometimes I change it up and say March comes in like a giant squid and leaves like a greater marmoset. Regardless of the animals used, the phrase still makes no sense. And March Madness, when two weeks of college basketball takes on an importance that completely overshadows the rest of the college basketball season to most of the male population (except for the die-hard fans). Growing up in San Antonio, I have come to look at March as the month when our two weeks of winter are officially behind us. Gone are the days of light frost. Gone also is the day when we get to stay home because of the ice or the quarter inch of snow. Welcome the time when our equally brief spring arrives. The yard starts turning green and I count the days until I get to spread some very aromatic dirt and subsequently start mowing. Indeed, March is about yard work and being outdoors. The temperature usually doesn’t climb into the mildly uncomfortable range or anywhere near the brutal level. Yes, March is the time to spread mulch, trim the crape myrtles, and make sure the yard is ready for summer fun. This year, we entered Daylight Saving Time in March, and the extra hour of light in the evening makes all the difference. For me, I ride my mountain bike after work starting in March. I get to commune with nature and enjoy some me time. Indeed March is one of my very favorite months. And as the month draws to a close, April waits in the wings and that means Fiesta. But, that is something else entirely. My name is Dave L, and I live in Mountain Lodge. By my observations, life can be fun, hard, tragic, entertaining, or just plain uneventful. And, it is always interesting. Copyright © 2011 Peel, Inc.

Gates and Barrier Arms Although the gates and barrier arms have been installed for over 6 months, we are all still going through a learning period. An ongoing problem is “tailgating”, i.e. tucking in closely behind the vehicle ahead of you. This results in the arm coming down on the tailgating vehicle and breaking the arm as well as damaging the car. If you are behind another vehicle, drive as if the system did not receive your remote units’ signal even though you have pressed the button on the unit. Only drive forward after you have seen the arm start down and then start back up again. This is the only way you can know that the entry control system has received your request to raise the arm. I know this takes 2 seconds longer than if you tailgate, but writing checks to repair the arm and your car will take a lot longer than the time you saved. If you need to order a remote control unit or change the name you have shown at the gate control display or the phone number that is called from the gate that enables you to open the gate for a visitor, please email your request to Jessica Borgard at our new management company, Asset Property Management, Inc.. Her email address is [email protected]. Similarly, if you note a problem with the gate system that requires action that day, please phone Asset Property Management, Inc. at 210-342-1181. If it does not require immediate attention, please send an email to Jessica at the above email address and cc the Mountain Lodge HOA at [email protected].

VOLUNTEER NEEDED We are looking for a volunteer to take over the Christmas decorations for the neighborhood. A new committee, Seasonal Decorations, has been created to handle this worthwhile effort and we need someone to step up and chair this committee. If you are interested in this job, please let us know! Contact [email protected]
