My Eternal Family: 2009 Primary Program Primary President

This year the theme for primary is My Eternal Family. We have learned that the family is an important part of Heavenly Father’s plan and each of us has an important role in building an eternal family. In September 1995, President Gordon B. Hinckley read The Family: A Proclamation to the world. We have been studying this document in primary. In paragraph 7 it states, “Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

SUNBEAM I am a spirit child of Heavenly Father. Heavenly Father has a plan for me. I am created in the image of God. I lived with Heavenly Father before I came to earth. Heavenly Father sent me to earth to be part of my family. My family is part of Heavenly Father’s plan. My Father in Heaven loves me. Heavenly Father wants us to return to him again. “All of you are children of the most High” Psalm 82:6 ♪ SONG I Lived in Heaven/The Family Is of God (CS 4/Friend Oct 2008) CTR 5/6 “Proclamation” paragraph 7 says “The family is ordained of God” I came to earth as part of a family. The scriptures teach us that Adam and Even were the first family. They were married, had children and taught them the gospel. The scriptures also teach us of Noah’s family. Heavenly Father blessed his family by protecting them from the flood. He protects all families.

In the Book of Mormon we learn about how Lehi’s family was blessed and protected as they left Jerusalem. In the Bible we learn that Jesus was born into a family to take care of him as a child. God creations of this earth also bless us and our families. The priesthood blesses my family. My father can give blessings to our family when we are sick or need comfort. If we have Jesus Chris as our foundation, I can live with my family forever. ♪ SONG How Firm a Foundation (Hymns, no. 85) CTR 7 CLASS “Organize yourselves: prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God” Doctrine and Covenants Section 88, verse 119. Members of a family each have important responsibilities to fulfill. I am thankful for the members of my family because (describe why you are thankful for your family). The mother nurtures the family. This means she helps teach, feed, pray and comfort her family. I am thankful for my mom because (describe why you are thankful for your mother). Children have the responsibility to obey their parents. In my family I obey my parents by (describe a way you obey your parents). Through prayer and service we can have the spirit in our homes to help us become an eternal family. In our family we (describe a how you pray together or do service to each

other in your family). In addition to my parents I have grandparents, aunts and uncles who love me and help watch over me. (Describe how your extended family shows their love for you.) Heavenly Father wants us to become eternal families and live with him again. Parents and children work together to build an eternal family. ♪ SONG My Eternal Family (Sharing Time Outline) Valiant 9 Girls Jesus Christ made it possible for me to live with my Heavenly Father again. Because of the Savior’s Atonement I can live with Heavenly Father again. John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” These are the words of our Savior. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us and want us to return to Them someday. My family and I will be resurrected. When we make mistakes, such as telling a lie or being unkind, we can repent because of the Savior’s Atonement. I have a testimony that Jesus Christ is my Savior. Because of the Atonement we repent of our mistakes and live with him again. By following Jesus Chris, we will be able to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ again. In the premortal life, before we lived on earth, we choice to

follow Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father’s plan. ♪ SONG ? CTR 8 CLASS Baptism and confirmation are ordinances that bless my family. I am glad I chose to be baptized. When I was baptized this year I felt…(describe some thoughts from your baptism). John 3:5 “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. I am glad I chose to be baptized. When I was baptized I felt…(describe some thoughts from your baptism). Jesus Christ was baptized. When I was baptized, I was following his example. My favorite part of my baptism day was…(describe some thoughts from your baptism). In primary we learned that Jesus Christ was baptized by immersion by John the Baptist in the River Jordan. We can be baptized when we are eight years old. This year I was baptized and confirmed by my dad. When I was baptized I felt…(describe some thoughts from your baptism). My family is blessed as we follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost. I will be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost later this year. Baptism is the first ordinance of the gospel. I learn this from Article of Faith number 4. principles of faith, prayer, repentance, and forgiveness.” Faith, prayer, repentance, and forgiveness strengthen me and my family. These things help us feel the spirit in our home and help us build an eternal family. Article of Faith number 4 “We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Chris; second, repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; forth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.” I build my faith through scripture study and prayer, repentance and forgiveness. As I learn these things in my youth, I help build an eternal family. ♪ SONG Seek the Lord Early (CS 108) Valiant 10, 11 & 12 GIRLS As I child of God, one of my responsibilities is to strengthen my family. Having the spirit in our home helps to strengthen our family and build an eternal family. The spirit can be brought into our home as we say family prayer, read the scriptures together, have family home evening, and keep the Sabbath day holy. President Thomas S. Monson likes the quote, “The family that prays together stays together.” The prophet has asked us to pray together as a family because it helps to unite families. Family prayer strengthens my family. Prayer has strengthened my family by (share how family prayer has strengthened your family). Reading the scripture strengthens my family. Family home evening strengthens my family. It has strengthened my family by (share how FHE can/has strengthened your family). Reverence and keeping the Sabbath day holy strengthen my family. Valiant 10, 11 & 12 BOYS The temple is a house of God and blessings done in the temple unite families together. As a child I will prepare now to go to the temple. Matthew 16:19 “I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” This scripture tells us that temples can seal our families together forever. I am thankful that I am part of an eternal family. I can prepare now to go to the temple. When I am twelve I can do baptisms for the dead. When I am ready to go on a mission, I can receive temple blessing for myself. I am preparing now for the temple by (give some examples of things you are doing now to prepare for the temple, such as attending church, etc.) Temple work blesses all generations of my family. After I have received temple blessing for myself, I can go again to the temple for my posterity who were not able to go to the temple when they lived on earth. This is Heavenly Father’s President plan for us. He wants us to have an Eternal Family. As we have learned this year, “Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ.” The children have learned not only do they have a place in a family now. It is their duty to prepare in their youth to be baptized, go to the temple and have their own Eternal Family one day.
