behalf of the NCCAA and the Board of Directors, I welcome you to the 2012 NCCAA On Women’s Softball National Championship. It is exciting for all of us to have ten institutions from

across the United States competing in Botetourt County, Virginia this week. This event is just one of our 22 national championships and three invitationals sanctioned by the NCCAA. Over 15,000 student-athletes and 104 institutions make up the NCCAA and this Women’s Softball Championship is an important part of our competitive calendar. Congratulations to each student-athlete and coach who participates in these games. Your involvement in this championship setting certainly represents many weeks of dedicated time and work. We trust that it is also a statement that you stand for the Lord while you compete. The NCCAA thanks Mr. Pete Dryer, Athletics Director at Bluefield College, Mr. Jim Farmer, Director of the Botetourt Complex and the entire event committee for their excellent leadership in organizing and administrating this fine event. I am also very grateful for the time and dedicated work of the NCCAA Women’s Softball Committee and its chairperson, Ms. Becky Stenning from Judson University. Sincere appreciation goes to Dr. David Olive, President of Bluefield College, and his administrative colleagues for their willingness to host a championship of this magnitude. Without the partnership of our member schools, events like this would not be possible. The NCCAA is unique and stands alone as the only national intercollegiate athletics association that uses athletics to serve the Great Commission. As we attempt to assist our studentathletes in shaping their Game Plan 4 Life, we hope you thoroughly enjoy your experience at this NCCAA Championship. Sincerely,

Dan Wood Executive Director

We are committed to graduating students who think critically, communicate effectively, and adapt readily to a changing world. Our athletic programs assist in the education of our student athletes in developing character, using Godgiven talents for His glory, and understanding the importance of commitment and teamwork. What an amazing opportunity to compete against other Christian institutions that desire to see Christ exalted in all that we do. It is my hope that the fellowship with those who serve you from Bluefield College and the NCCAA, as well as the time spent with other players and coaches, will be an enriching and memorable experience of a lifetime. May you build new relationships and encourage one another as we strengthen the body of Christ through the gift of softball. Partnering with you in faithful service,

Welcome National Championship Participants! The citizens and Board of Supervisors of Botetourt County congratulate you for earning a trip to the 2012 National Christian College Athletic Association Women’s Softball National Championship. We welcome you and hope your stay is rewarding. This tournament is very important to us and we are honored to have you as our guests. Enjoy the incredible views surrounding the beautiful Botetourt Sports Complex and please let staff know if there is anything the County might do for you. Botetourt County was formed in 1770 and is named after a Royal Governor of the Colony of Virginia, Lord Botetourt. Botetourt County originally extended from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes, including portions of what would later become the states of Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. While you’re here be sure to visit the many shops, restaurants, and historic buildings in the Botetourt County area. Several sites are listed on the Virginia and National Registers of Historic Places. The County also contains many recreational opportunities including the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Jefferson and George Washington National Forests, the James River, and the Appalachian Trail, as well as two championship golf courses. Our sincere best wishes for a safe and exciting time playing ball this weekend. We hope that you have the occasion to come and visit us again very soon. Sincerely, Kathleen D. Guzi Kathleen D. The Lancers clinched in their final regular season game, getting a no-hitter from Emma Holden in the 12-0 five-inning win. CBU then faced Hope International in the NCCAA West Regional, defeating the Royals 6-0 and 9-0 to qualify for the NCCAA National Tournament. The Lancers got another no-hitter from Holden in the regional sweep and closed the best of three series with a three-hit shutout from Tory Ferreira. With a 45-6 overall record, the Lancers posted their 10th straight 40-win season and CBU’s PacWest title was the ninth straight conference championship for the program. The Lancers won eight straight Golden State Athletic Conference titles before moving to the PacWest. CBU won 17 straight conference games to close the season, out-pacing Dixie State which won 21 straight contests, but could still not catch the Lancers after losing 3 of 4 to CBU early in the season. CBU got wins over three ranked NCAA D-II teams this season, beating then-No. 1 UC San Diego, No. 22 Hawaii Pacific and No. 11 Chico State.

season overview:

Record: 34-21 Location: Cedarville, Ohio Enrollment: 3,300 Nickname: Yellow Jackets Affiliation: NCAA Div II, NCCAA Midwest Colors: Blue and Yellow Athletic Director: Dr. Alan Geist President: Dr. William E. Brown

It’s been another record-setting softball season in 2012 for Cedarville University. The Lady Jackets repeated as NCCAA Midwest Region champions for the first time in school history to highlight the campaign.

Cedarville, 34-21 overall, is making its second straight national tournament appearance and eighth overall. The Lady Jackets broke last year’s mark for the most victories in a season (32) without having a senior on the roster and by starting at least five freshmen in most of their games. Sophomore centerfielder Kelsey Wilson, a 2011 NCCAA First Team All-American, has been the offensive leader. She enters the tournament hitting .509 with four home runs and 45 RBI’s. Wilson has ranked second nationally in NCAA Division II batting average for most of the spring. She has already set single-season school records for hits (89), runs (53), and total bases (125).

Sophomore outfielder Shelby Young hits .345 with 39 RBI’s. Junior DP Kenleigh Ludlow, a 2011 NCCAA Second Team All-American, hits .338 with 40 runs scored. Cedarville is in its provisional year of the NCAA Division II membership process and has played one of its more demanding schedules. The Lady Jackets recovered from a 1-5 start to accomplish their second straight 30-win season under fifth-year Head Coach Wes Rowe.

Campbellsville (38-22) will be making its second straight appearance at the NCCAA National Softball Tournament with its Thursday match-up with last year’s champion — North Greenville University. The Lady Tigers went through a 16-3 stretch in March and April before losing seven of eight going into the Mid-South Conference Tournament. But CU showed promise of regaining its mid-season form with a five-game win streak that earned them their third straight MSC Tournament final, losing to No. 22-ranked Lindsey Wilson College (45-12). Campbellsville is led by freshman Kristin Benton (74 hits and 44 RBIs) and junior Emma Napier (47 runs, 70 hits and 20 doubles). They get ample offensive support from senior Bailey Dillender (32 runs and 60 hits) and sophomore Heather Oakley (12 homers and 45 RBIs). Sophomores Taylor Wroe (18-5) and Courtney Turpin (19-10) have 37 of the team’s 39 wins.

Emmanuel finished the season with an overall 25-29 record for the 2012 season. The Lions, a part of the Southern States Athletic Conference, finished their above .500 mark when playing at home at 13-10. The team had to play a very tough schedule with seven-nationally ranked teams and two more who were receiving votes in the NAIA during their 2012 campaign. While losing by slim margins at the NCCAA Regional play, the Lions received one of the few at-large bids into the national tournament. Emmanuel is led on the mound by Jordan Najafi, who has gone 146 IP with 11 wins and 81 strikeouts on the year. At the plate, the Lions boast a very balanced offensive attack. They are led by sophomore Brittney Smith, who leads the team with 17 doubles, 5 HR and 21 RBI. She also gets help from freshman-sensation, Holly Springer, who has connected on a team-high 31 RBI’s and 5 HR.

season overview: The Lady Scots are enjoying another solid year behind the pitching of Chelsea Krafft and the hitting of Beth Harris. Covenant was the runner-up at the Mid-East Region Tournament and is 21-20 overall. The 21 wins marks the second straight year that the Lady Scots have achieved the 20win plateau. Krafft has dominated in the circle as she has struck out 176 batters in 174 innings with an earned run average of 2.69 and 19 completegames. On March 19, Krafft combined with Harris to throw a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Rust College. At the plate, Harris has hit 15 home runs this season, tops in the Great South Athletic Conference and would be among the best in NCAA DIII, and driven in 53 runs while hitting a robust .435. Harris accumulated 18 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI games this season. Courtney Wagoner provides support batting behind Harris as she has hit .406 with four home runs and 31 RBIs. After a slow start to the season, Christine Core is batting .352 and has stolen 26 bases in 28 attempts out of the leadoff spot this year.

about the nccaa The NCCAA is an association of Christ-centered collegiate institutions whose mission is to use athletic competition as an integral component of education, evangelism and encouragement. We serve our members by setting association standards, developing communication resources, providing regional/national competition and partnering in outreach to our communities and the world. We are committed to equipping student-athletes and coaches to make a positive impact for Christ.

NCCAA Student-Athletes’ Code of Conduct Athletics plays a significant role in the holistic education of student- athletes. It is a powerful tool to develop leadership skills and godly character development. Therefore every effort should be made to demonstrate the highest standard of excellence and godly character. Therefore, relying on God, with the help of my coaches and teammates, I will strive to: Follow all guidelines of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) letter and spirit, and place myself in compliance with the association. Provide student records as well as accurate and complete information concerning all aspects of my playing to the NCCAA and other public forums. Treat coaches, administrators and officials with respect as the authority figures placed over me as I represent my institution and the NCCAA. Treat fellow student-athletes with respect and celebrate their diversity regardless of gender, ethnicity or cultural background. Instill godly character in my teammates by demonstrating high standards of personal honesty and integrity.

NCCAA National Championship Community Service Projects

Annually, NCCAA staff, student-athletes and coaches perform approximately 2,500 hours of Christian outreach at NCCAA National Championships! Last year, NCCAA student-athletes, coaches and staff collected and donated 14,000 pounds (7 tons) of food, over $2,500 cash AND 1,300 pounds of clothes to food pantries and shelters in communities nationwide! Reports were received of the overwhelming encouragement these donations were, often arriving in the nick of time...or in God’s timing. Thank you to all the member institutions who have helped make this outreach possible. In a 2 year campaign, the NCCAA has donated over 21,250 pounds of food and over $3,500 to shelters nationwide. To learn more from this year’s softball tournament projects, be sure to log-on to the NCCAA website at www.thenccaa.org

TOURNAMENT CHAPLAIN -- TIM CRAIGER -- SCORE INTERNATIONAL

Tim Craiger has been in full-time Christian ministry for 18 years. He currently serves with SCORE International as the Field Director for the Dominican Republic and the Interim Field Director for Costa Rica. He is also a recruiter for SCORE where he recruits athletes and teams to experience a Sports Missions trip. In the summer of 1998 he and his son went on a basketball trip, with SCORE International, to Jamaica. While on that trip God got a hold of his life and showed him the impact that a short-term missions trip can have on an individual. It was on a trip to Costa Rica in the summer of 1999 where Craiger and his wife answered the call to serve God in full-time missions. They have served with SCORE International since October of 1999. Craiger attended Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, Pa, where he played baseball. He has also been an assistant coach at elementary, junior high and high school levels. Craiger has lead dozens of short-term missions trips for sports teams from the NCCAA, NAIA, NCAA levels and with professional athletes to countries like the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Haiti and Trinidad. Last year SCORE took over 5000 people on short-term trips of which over 1200 were athletes. Craiger and his wife Virginia current reside in Spring Hill, Florida and they have three children and ten grandchildren.
