JEFFREY-TRAYLOR drying and cooling systems apply the principle of electric vibration to processing operations. Range and depth of material conveyed is automatically controlled and may be changed to conform with varying requirements as it travels through the various processing operations. These systems specially valuable for processing under closely controlled conditions . . unexcelled for handling friable, dusty or chemically pure material without contamination, breakage, loss of color or lustre. Direct type with either perforated or louvered conveying surface — Indirect type with solid conveying surface.

Pressed Steel Case Glass Thermometer A thermometer incorporating many im provements is announced by the American Schaeffer & Budenberg Instrument Divi sion of Manning, Maxwell & Moore, Inc., Bridgeport, Conn. Designed to conserve the copper used in cast bronze cases, it is possible to furnish back, side, and oblique angles without using the bail joint; the scales and tubes are located to produce greatest read ability; the case has been reinforced to give it all the structural stiffness of a plate girder and is practically corrosion-proof. Industrial Gloves Coated with Synthetic Rubber T H E Edmont Mfg. Co., 574 Orange St., Coshocton, Ohio, has announced a new glove for women workers which offers complete hand protection against solvents, acids, chemicals, caustics, and other cor rosive materials. These gloves are rein forced with a fabric lining which makes them virtually snagproof and tear-resist ant.

Operating Analysis Chart A NEW operating analysis chart for the scientific specification and accurate shop record of hydraulic and pneumatic "U" ickings has been issued by Wayne avies & Co., 325 West Huron St., Chicago, III. The bulletin with the chart §oes into detail on the hydraulic service improve ments developed by Wayne Davies with data and information enabling mainte nance engineers to determine exact require ments and dimensions for every condition.

Multi-Contact Timers MXJLTI-CONTACT timers produced by The R. W. Cramer Co., Inc., Centerbrook, Conn., automatically control a. sequence of on and off operations of a single or a mul tiple number of electrical circuits in ac cordance with a predetermine*! operating program. They may be used to control a series of machine operations in definite order, automatically reverse or alternate in opera tion a group of motors, machines, or de vices, or operate in a predetermined se quence.

Junior Member. Electrode for Electric Welding A NEW ail-position alternating-current electrode for electric welding, known as Murex type A, has been developed by the Metal & Thermit Corrp., Ν. Υ. City. With it overhead and vertical welds can be made without the mase of a highly specialized welding technique. These electrodes meet -the requirements for Grade E-6011 electrodes, under A. W. S.-A. S. T. M. specification A-23342T, for grade ΠΙ, classes 1 and 2, under U. S. Navy Bureau of Sloips specification 46E3, and for grades HlG, BIG and E2G, American Bureau of Shipping, the manu facturer states. New Fire-Extingutisher Case T o REVBAL· instantly any attempt to tamper with fire extinguishers, AmericanLaFrance-Foamite Corp., Elmira, Ν. Υ., has introduced the tameless case. Con structed of noncritical, *x>ugh cardboard stock, it safely houses "the extinguisher from the reach of unauthorized per sons, and yet allows insfcant removal for legitimate use. JPrecise information on the front of each case shows the classes of ure on which ex tinguishers should be use*!, and the kinds of fires on which they should not be used. Proportioning Pump (or Latex A NEW large size -Adjust-O-Feeder pro portioning pump for hancdling regular and off-grade latex, as well as many other vis cous fluids, has been announced by %Proportioneers, Inc.%^ Providence. The design includes special double stuff ing gland containing metallic stripper rings for Keeping viscous material out of the packing, large easily removable inspection parts with hand clamps for ready inspec tion of ball check valves without the use of special tools, andfluidseeding of displace ment plunger and stuffing gland as well as provision for water washing of the plunger as it moves through the stuffing box. The drive motor and srpeed reducer are separate units, and the moving parts of the pump are fully enclosed. 636

Beryllium Windows for X-Ray Tubes Beryllium windows which, though opaque to light, are more transparent t o certain kinds of x-rays than glass, are used in x-ray tubes and are helping to speed t h e tests on materials used in bombers and i n other war machines. In these tests t h e arrangement of atoms is studied and determined by the diffraction patterns o f the x-rays. Because the absorption of x-rays b y beryllium is unusually l o w , this metal is ideal for transmitting t h e long rays used in many diffraction studies.
