Dye Laser The new Model 375 CW dye laser from Spectra-Physics operates with all available dyes and handles dye solutions with viscosities varying from less than 5 to over 25 cP. The 375 features low output beam noise (less than 1% rms from 10 to 100 Hz) and a new Fabry-Perot passive tuning element. Microprocessor/ Mass Spectrometer The Olfax 7000 system consists of an integrated circuit microprocessor and a quadrupole mass spectrometer and provides routine qualitative and quantitative analyses of illicit drugs in 30 sec. The Intel 8008 microprocessor features solid-state circuitry and readonly-memory cards and stores spectral "fingerprints" of up to 64 substances. Physical preseparation is unnecessary in most cases, and raw drug analysis can be accomplished at the rate of 25/hr. Personnel Monitoring for Vinyl Chloride A new system for monitoring vinyl chloride exposure to industrial workers consists of a gas chromatograph with detection limits as low as 50 ppb, a flasher assembly for desorbing the sample into the chromatograph, and a sample pump with collection column/ holder. Workers wear the collector column and sample pump which are detached and placed in the flasher assembly, followed by connection to the GC for analysis. Hot Stage Microscope The HSM5 hot stage microscope assembly allows precise study of thermal decomposition mechanisms by controlling the rate of sample heating from 1° to 1000°C/min.
