A Message from Father Des. A number of you may remember Fr. P J Cumiskey. He was once Parish Priest at Castlecliff and then Patea/ Waverley. For the last 18 years he has been a resident at Kowhainui Rest Home but since his health has deteriorated he could no longer be catered for as a patient there. We are very grateful to the staff and management for his care over that time. Last week he was admitted to the Broadview Dementia Unit where he will be well looked after. Hopefully some parishioners may be able to visit him. We are grateful that Broadview will be able to continue his long term care. Fr. Des. We wish Fr Don Don safe travels while he is on holiday. Come back refreshed!

Tēnā koutou The highlight this week was the National Young Leaders Day in Palmerston North. Our Senior Student Council got to listen to a series of inspirational speakers who have overcome challenges to build successful lives. The messages were clear and offered encouragement. The one that stood out for our students was that success can be attributed to 10% talent and 90% hard work.We have just started a new initiative for parents, caregivers and staff. On a Monday night, once a fortnight, we are meeting to talk about and share our faith. Father Brian is leading us on a gentle faith formation journey. Our first meeting focused on our journey so far. Next time, Monday 23rd at 7pm at St Mary’s School, we will be looking at different forms of prayer. Ma te Atua koutou e manaaki e tiaki May God care for and look after you all. Nga

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, nga mihi o te wā Pentecost! On Monday we celebrated Catholic Schools Day with prayer, song, dance, arts and sport at school, while our year 8 students went to the young leaders symposium in Palmerston North. Sending blessings of appreciation to the parents, visitors and parishioners who joined us through out the day and to DJ Chris and his wonderful bubble making machine. On Tuesday, Mrs Tuck and our new entrant class organised and led mass with our church community. A reminder to all, that class masses are held every Tuesday at 10am, in the Holy Family Chapel. Next week is Mr Grant and his years 7 and 8 class. Come and bear witness to the word of our Lord with our senior students. The winter sports season has 'kicked off' to a great start; congratulations to Marcellin Combined 1 netball team who won their section of the open grade tournament. All three netball teams train hard every Friday after school. The Tackle Rugby mixed team won their game and have now turned their attention to the Inter-schools Ripper Rugby competition, which is at the end of May and beginning of June. Finally, on Friday our years 7 and 8 class will be attending the bi-annual Careers Expo is on at the memorial hall. Manuia, Whāea Maia.

Over the past week we took our Year 7 and 8 Children to the National Young Leaders Day in Palmerston North. This is always a well organized day with some very inspirational speakers for young children. It is a great opportunity to inspire some of our young leaders and is reinforced with strong values. We also had a small team of seven children represent our school at the Contributing Schools tackle rugby tournament at Springvale park. Unfortunately because of illness we did not have any reserves but the team played with pride and passion. There were some great runs, awesome support play and some hard tackles. We won three of our six

games. Thanks to the parents who helped with transport. We also had two teachers a end the New Teachers to Catholic Schools conference in Palmerston North on Thursday and Friday.
