HOLY HOUR: SUNDAY 4 DECEMBER 2.30-3.30pm. at St. Mary’s Church. Why not spend an hour with the Blessed Sacrament in this season of Advent? Rosary- Chaplet of Mercy- Benediction- Hymns.

One of the problems we face during Advent is that many of the scripture readings used in the liturgy give the impression that there’s something still to come when it is already, or should be already, here. For example, next week we’ll hear Isaiah telling his people that God is coming "with vindication, with divine recompense ... to save you," but Jesus has already come to ‘save us’. That brings us to the question people often ask: If God has already come, why is so much still wrong with our world? Why aren’t ‘the eyes of the blind opened’, or ‘the ears of the deaf unstopped’? Why aren't ‘the lame leaping like deer’, or the ‘tongues of the speechless singing for joy’ as Isaiah promises? Shouldn’t Jesus, as Messiah, have taken care of all this? Yet, here we are still battling violence and war, poverty and disease, injustice and discrimination. We can take it from next week’s gospel passage that, when John the Baptist put the question: 'Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?', Jesus was able to respond with a list of actions that proved he was fulfilling the hopes of prophets like Isaiah: "The blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them." After answering John's question, Jesus tells the crowd, "... there has been none greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he." In other words, we’re mportant. We're the ones entrusted with carrying on Jesus’ ministry. We’re the ones called to "strengthen the hands that are feeble, make firm the knees that are weak," and take care of those "whose hearts are frightened." Perhaps part of the problem is that we expect God to do what God has called us to do. J B Kendall rsj Second Sunday of Advent Reflections

December 4th Responsorial Psalm PS 72 Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace forever. For he shall rescue the poor when he cries out, and the afflicted when he has no one to help him. He shall have pity for the lowly and the poor; the lives of the poor he shall save. *“We will work to promote humane policies that protect refugees and immigrants' inherent dignity, keep families together, and honour and respect the laws of this nation.” Who will rescue the poor, the afflicted? God or Gods workers? It’s the body that is called the Church. Not just the Bishops, but all of the Church, all of our communities, all of Gods workers. Who are our refugee, how can we the Parish help the local immigtants? Please take this prayer and then speak to your Parish Community. Can you help anyone over Advent and Christmas?" *From the American Bishop's Conference to President Elect-Mr Trump. Christmas Care & Concern: Following our successful gifting last year to Parishioners in need, we will do the same this year J. All donations (gifts, baking, cash) gratefully accepted and can be left at the Parish office (or in boxes provided in foyer).
