Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ! I’d really like to get to know you and this congregation. I’m wondering if you might be willing to share a little introductory information with me on our thoughts about your congregation. Please take a few minutes to write some thoughts down and return them to me. I trust you will remember that this is a time to share joyfully and I will take your godly thoughts with the best of intentions. Please tell me one thing you really love and appreciate about Trinity. Share one tradition at Trinity that you deeply appreciate that has lasting impact. If you could change one thing at Trinity, what would it be? Please share with me one thing you will do (invest in) to help the congregation further her ministry. (Perhaps this involves the one area mentioned above that you see needs change.) Name: Thank You!!!

TRANSFER THE BLESSINGS At the end of this year Trinity's "Transfer the Blessings" endowment committee will determine the amount available for projects in 2018. This amount, which is up to 5% of the year end total of unrestricted funds, can be requested by filling out a project application form. Application forms are available in the church office or online. The endowment fund provides an ongoing source of income for ministries that would not otherwise be funded by our operational budget. If you have any questions about the Transfer the Blessings fund please contact any of the committee members or the church office. Information and confidential consultation about planned giving options can be obtained by contacting Mr. David Priebe, retired business attorney (612)508-4640. David is a Gift Planning Counselor for the MN North District - LCMS.

DCO CORNER Trinity Lutheran Church is a referring agency for The Good Samaritan Fund. For over 20 years The Good Samaritan Fund has been helping people who are experiencing a one-time emergency crisis, so they can get their lives back on track. Contributions to the fund come from businesses and individuals from here in Central Minnesota. Recipients of these grants must apply through a referring agency. All income and expenses of the applicant must be provided on the application and if the grant is approved the Landlord or vendor is dealt with directly and no funds are ever given to the applicant. The grant is for a need that is not expected to reoccur. It must solve a problem and not create a dependency. A few examples of cases we have handled are as follows: ➢ Damage deposit paid to a landlord for an apartment for a single mom who only had

enough money for the first month’s rent. ➢ Funds to pay for a major car repair for one of our Anyuak members so he could keep

working. ➢ Payment to Excel Energy to turn lights back for a family living here in Sauk Rapids. I usually process at least dozen applications per year and the average grant is about $500. Do you want to help get a life back on track? If you do, you can contribute by making a check out to Good Samaritan Fund and mail it to Central Minnesota Community Foundation 101 7th Avenue South, Suite 100, St. Cloud, MN 56301. Or you can go online to: CommunityGiving.org/goodsamaritancentralmn.

(100% of your gift will go directly to fund-qualified emergency needs in the St. Cloud area!) (Luke 10:37)

Music and Worship Notes

The Great “O” Antiphons “Ero Cras” translated “Tomorrow, I will Come.”

The first “Advent Vespers” service I experienced at Concordia College (now University) was based on the seven O Antiphons. I think of the theme of that service every year when Advent comes again. The season is filled with anticipation and remembering. We look ahead to the day of Christ’s return and recall the promises set forth in the words of the prophet Isaiah. The Advent hymn O Come, O Come, Emmanuel is a paraphrase of the Latin “O” Antiphons. (Antiphon is a term referring to a call and response in worship, i.e. “O Wisdom…/Come and teach us…”) They are referred to as the "O Antiphons" because the title of each one begins with the interjection "O". Each antiphon is a name of Christ, one of his attributes mentioned in Scripture. They are: • O Sapientia (O Wisdom) Come and teach us the way of prudence. • O Adonai (O Lord) Come with an outstretched arm and redeem us. • O Radix Jesse (O Root of Jesse) Come quickly to deliver us. • O Clavis David (O Key of David) Come and rescue the prisoners who are in the darkness and the shadow of • death. • O Oriens (O Dayspring) ) Come and enlighten those who sit in the darkness and the shadow of death. • O Rex Gentium (O King of the nations) Come and save us all, whom you formed out of clay. • O Emmanuel (O God with us) Come and save us, O Lord our God. (LSB 357) The importance of the "O Antiphons" is twofold. First, each one is a title for the Messiah. Secondly, each one refers to the prophecy of Isaiah of the coming of the Messiah. It is interesting to note that the first letters of the titles taken backwards form the Latin acrostic of "Ero Cras" which translates to "Tomorrow, I will come", mirroring the theme of the antiphons. (From Wikipedia ) The Scripture readings in December are for the four Sundays in Advent (from the Latin adventus, translated coming) all relate to the coming of the Christ, first, as the Christ child who lived a sinless life and was sacrificed to save us all, and secondly, at the end of the world when He returns in glory at an “hour when you do not expect Him” to bring to Heaven all who are redeemed. Take note of the Old Testament Readings during the month of December. You will notice that in every service, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the First Lesson is from Isaiah. See the promises God gave us from the beginning of time, and marvel at His fulfilling of all these prophecies! As we gather to worship, may we watch, wait, and pray together, “Come, Lord Jesus.” Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel! “Tomorrow, I will come.” Rejoice today in that promise and joyfully anticipate tomorrow! Merry Christmas!

Voices From the Edge: Preparing the Advent Way Advent has long been a time of preparation, preparation for the celebration of Christmas. Yet the road to Christmas is anything but easy. In our culture, people prepare for Christmas either by an escape from life or by an excess of it. Even for the believer, preparations for Christmas twists and turns, and we meet many strange figures along the way. Prophets cry out in visions. John the Baptizer preaches in the desert. Angels appear whether you are asleep or awake. The voices are varied, the places are strange, but one thing is certain: in each encounter, God is preparing us for the celebration of the greatest encounter of all, the birth of Jesus, His Son, our Savior, the Redeemer of the world. Come join us each Wednesday evening at 6:00pm to hear the voices on the edge and prepare your lives for the single greatest encounter of your life. Wednesdays, Dec. 6, 13 and 20 At 6:00pm with a meal to precede at 5:00pm, and Confirmation Classes to follow from 6:45—7:45 pm If you would like to help provide a dessert for the meal, please sign up on the kitchen door.
