Progress Reports Update Niki Sandy, Illuminate Education

SessionOutcomes By the end of the session you should: 1.  Have a basic understanding what the law states in regards to Progress Reports. 2.  Understand which fields from the IEP carryover into the Progress Report. 3.  Understand how to enter data into the Progress Report. 4.  Know how to print some or all of the Progress Reports from a caseload at one time.

ProgressReports… IDEA states that each child’s IEP must contain: (3) A description of— (i) How the child’s progress toward meeting the annual goals described in paragraph (2) of this section will be measured; and (ii) When periodic reports on the progress the child is making toward meeting the annual goals… [§300.320(a)(3)]

InOtherTerms How will the child’s progress be measured? When will the child’s progress be measured? How well will the child need to perform in order to achieve his or her stated IEP goals, benchmarks and/or objectives?

DidYouKnow That for IEPs in Michigan “Periodic Reports” means, “quarterly marking periods” per MDE’s Quick Reference Guide Section Four: Goals and Objectives/Benchmarks. MDE’s Guide goes on to state, “If the district has more or fewer marking periods, adjust the number of status areas to align with the district’s periodic reports (i.e., report cards).” AND in the Schedule for Reporting Progress section MDE’s Guide states, “Identify when periodic reports of progress will be provided to the parent (align the schedule with the district marking periods.”

WhatisRequired? What is required in a progress note? MDE’s Quick Reference guide states, “The status areas are to be completed at the time of the district’s periodic reports. They must include the date of the periodic report and the progress toward the annual goal as it relates to the short-term objective/ benchmark.”

AddNotes

7/18/2013: Here is where you will add your notes in regards to the goal and objective(s). 10/16/2013: It is very helpful to put the date before writing in new comments from a different Progress Reporting Period.
