A Note from Brian Knight about Civic Engagement I would like to offer this note as a reminder to our congregation. Next Tuesday, July 24 is the Primary run-off election day in Georgia. In-person early voting continues through this week and ends on Friday. There are several statewide Republican candidates and at least one statewide Democratic candidate still to be decided, along with several local races and non-partisan judge races. You can see your ballot choices and early voting locations at the website www.mvp.sos.ga. If you voted a particular party in the May primary, you must vote that party again in the primary run-off. However, if you did NOT vote in the May Primary, you may STILL VOTE and may choose the party of your preference. I send this note not to promote a political agenda or party–but as a suggestion of practical participation. Our community frequently deliberates over, prays for, and engages with civic issues. The functional aspect of our style of government requires active choice selection to guide the bearing of our civic path. You, today through next Tuesday, and on through November, have the opportunity to nudge and push our civic discourse and governance. I urge you, please to take the chance to do so. By urging civic involvement in this space, I am not endorsing any specific candidate or party and this should not be construed as an endorsement or support by Northside Drive Baptist Church of any political candidate or party. Humbly & respectfully submitted,

Brian A. Knight We currently have a teacher need for our 2-3 year old Church School class. We employ Shawn Hodges to provide care for this group, but in years past we have had a NDBC member sing songs, tell Bible stories, and provide some structure for our children in this age range. If you are interested in volunteering, we could really use your help. Please contact Daniel Headrick for more information.

Choir Retreat Scheduled for August 24-25 The Sanctuary Choir will start the fall season with a retreat on Friday, August 24, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, August 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We will gather on Friday at 6 p.m. for dinner in the Fellowship Hall and begin rehearsal at 7 p.m. and finish at 9 p.m. On Saturday, we will gather at 9:00 a.m. for breakfast and fellowship. Rehearsal will start at 10 a.m., and we will rehearse until 1 p.m. (We will take a break in the middle of each rehearsal.) Friday night dinner and Saturday breakfast are provided. We are not staying overnight at the church. You get to sleep in your own bed. The focus of the retreat will be the music for Gaudete Sunday (Dec. 16), and anthems for the first few weeks of fall worship services. Our musical offering for December 16 will be Magnificat by Gerald Finzi and Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Ralph Vaughan Williams. We will be accompanied by stings and organ. If you would like to sing these works, but are unable to attend weekly Thursday rehearsals, come to the retreat, and we can work out a schedule starting in early November for you to attend rehearsals regularly then. We will work on sections of the pieces at each weekly rehearsal. There will be a rehearsal with orchestra on Saturday, December 15, 10 a.m. to noon in the Sanctuary.

Habitat for Humanity 2018 Build Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 4, as NDBC continues our 25-year history of Interfaith Habitat builds. The build will continue for 8 weekends, starting Aug. 4. NDBC will be the lead church on August 4 which means, in addition to providing more workers, we will serve lunch for volunteers and provide nursery for those with small children who wish to work that day. You can sign up for just 1 of the days or all 8 if you wish. Watch for more information in the Pinnacle and sign-up sheets in the narthex, or contact Barbara Atchley or Dave Wooten for more info.
