Family Worship Guide Week of June 14th, 2015 One of the ways SC Kids partners with parents to make disciples of Jesus is to provide resources that promote discipleship in the home. This Family Worship Guide is intended to give parents content from this week’s lesson to discuss with their children throughout the week.

REVIEW This Sunday’s lesson was called “Jesus Feeds the Multitude” and comes from John 6:1-15. For a children’s bible version you can refer to Story 99 of the Gospel Story Bible.

GOSPEL In John 6:35 Jesus said, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” Jesus’ providing food for the five thousand is a picture of a greater salvation he would bring. He is not just the multiplier of the fish and the loaves. He himself is the Bread of Life. John 6:40 continues, “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” The disciples, with but a few loaves and fish, could not feed the thousands gathered. What an apt picture of our inability to save ourselves. But if we turn to Jesus, he has the power to supply what we need. Just as Jesus multiplied the fish and the loaves to feed the multitude, so today he offers us himself.

DISCUSS Why were all these people coming to listen to Jesus? He was performing miracles and teaching about God and his kingdom like no one else had done before. What did the disciples do when Jesus told them to feed the big crowd? The found a little boy with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. What did Jesus do with the 5 loaves and 2 fish? First, he thanked God for it and then broke the loves into pieces and passed out the fish. It miraculously multiplied into more food!

How can so much food be left over from five loaves and two fish? Jesus performed a miracle! He did what no one else could do!
