Family Worship Guide Week of August 30th, 2015 One of the ways SC Kids partners with parents to make disciples of Jesus is to provide resources that promote discipleship in the home. This Family Worship Guide is intended to give parents content from this week’s lesson to discuss with their children throughout the week.

GOSPEL Jesus’ greatest act of service was not washing feet. Paul tells us in Philippians 2:7–8 that our attitude should be the same as that of Jesus who “made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Jesus—God himself—performed his greatest act of service for us by giving up his life for us. The events in the upper room were pointing ahead to what would soon happen in the crucifixion. It was demeaning for Jesus to wash the disciples’ feet. He was washing away the outward dirt with water and a towel. How much more demeaning was it for him to wash filthy hearts, taking upon himself all our vile sin and shedding his own blood as an atoning sacrifice to wash our sin away?

DISCUSS What did Jesus do on the night his disciples gathered for Passover? Jesus took the role of a servant and washed his disciples feet. Why didn’t Peter want Jesus to wash his feet? He was too proud. He didn’t want his master to wash his feet. What did the washing of the disciples feet symbolize? Jesus washing away the sins of those who put their faith in him through his sacrifice on the cross.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES For additional family devotionals you can purchase “Old Story New: Ten Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God” at amazon.com or from the Sacred City Bookstore on Sunday.

SING Singing is a great way for kids to experience and memorize God’s Word. There are a lot of great resources out there to help instill these timeless truth into our kids but here are a few family favorites: Preschool age - “Cedarmont Kids - Bible Songs” and for Preschool and Elementary age children we recommend the Morning Star Catechism CD (available at the SC bookstore) and Seeds Family Worship.

PRAY Thank Jesus for how he came to earth to serve us when we were unable to serve ourselves. Thank him for washing away your sins and making you a new creation. Ask that God would do the same to those you are on mission to and give them saving faith.
