Family Worship Guide Week of September 6th, 2015 One of the ways SC Kids partners with parents to make disciples of Jesus is to provide resources that promote discipleship in the home. This Family Worship Guide is intended to give parents content from this week’s lesson to discuss with their children throughout the week.

GOSPEL The Passover meal was the clearest picture of God’s redemption in the Old Testament. The first Passover took place in Egypt, when the angel of death “passed over” the homes where the lamb’s blood was painted on the doorposts and lintels. On the night before Jesus’ crucifixion, at the Passover meal, the disciples learned that Jesus, the Lamb of God, was going to shed his blood for all mankind. For those who believe, Jesus’ blood covers their sin so that when the judgment of God comes in their direction, it will pass over and bring them no harm. The Passover story points to the new covenant, which Jesus introduced at the Last Supper. A covenant is a promise or commitment. Jesus introduced his commitment and promise to the disciples. His blood was shed and his body broken so that we might be forgiven and brought into fellowship with God. Jesus summarizes the last Passover this way: “I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God” (Luke 22:16). Today, we celebrate the Passover in the new covenant celebration of the Lord’s Supper, also known as “Communion.”

DISCUSS What did Jesus say about the bread? “This is my body, given for you. Do this to remember me.” What did Jesus say about the wine? “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES For additional family devotionals you can purchase “Old Story New: Ten Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God” at amazon.com or from the Sacred City Bookstore on Sunday.

SING Singing is a great way for kids to experience and memorize God’s Word. There are a lot of great resources out there to help instill these timeless truth into our kids but here are a few family favorites: Preschool age - “Cedarmont Kids - Bible Songs” and for Preschool and Elementary age children we recommend the Morning Star Catechism CD (available at the SC bookstore) and Seeds Family Worship.

PRAY Thank the Father for sending Jesus to save us. Thank Jesus for shedding his own blood so that our sins could be forgiven. Ask the Holy Spirit to continually point us to Jesus, not just on Sundays when we eat the Lord’s Supper, but every day of the week as well.

MORNING STAR CATECHISM

Q 5. Why should you glorify God? A 5. Because He made me and takes care of me. Rev 4:11 "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being." Lower Elementary Q 15. Who wrote the Bible? A 15. Holy men who were taught by the Holy Spirit. 2 Pet 1:20 - 21 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
